  • Laundry Room , This dark orange laundry room looked like a messy closet. Now it looks like a built in hutch in a light, bright, organized clean room. It serves as a pass through from main house to basement apartment for my daughter, so it needed to be neat and pretty.

  • Verano Family-Great Roon "The Warm Companion", This is the space where we spend most of our time. When designing the space I wanted it to appeal to both sexes. I often hear people say "I'm afriad to go so dark" and dark does not work for every space but using rich colors like rust & dark brown can offer the ambiance that many envision. I always have fresh flowers and in the evening when I return home I light a couple candles & ignite the fireplace for a truly warm and special place., Living Rooms Design

  • The Dark Room, We just bought a house and the living room is on the east side of the house. You would think that being on the east side, that we would have a nice bright living room in the morning, but that just isn't the case. As you can see from the photo's, the room is dark in the morning and even darker in the afternoon and we don't like it. The walls are a cream color with a hint of yellow and the feature wall is a rosy/brick red with the ceiling being a mustard yellow. We could use some decoration/painting ideas that would help to brighten up our space. Paint is an obvious step, but what colors should we use so that it looks brighter but not like a hospital? We are open to room modification or additions such as better blinds, lamps, etc. We could also use interior design help with furniture and placement ideas as we are still purchasing furniture and would love to hear some different ideas. Any help is appreciated!, Living Rooms Design

  • Family Room Finally Completed, This is a very large room, it is home to our 3 dogs and 5 daughters. Before, it was very dark and 70's...ish. There was dark paneling, dark bookcases and lots of formica. We have lived with this for 5 years. Enough is Enough! After removing the carpet/padding, cabinet doors, shelving, washing, sanding, priming, sanding, painting, sanding, and more painting.....it is finally COMPLETED! Of course there is still that "fine" tuning that every room needs.

But, for the most part I'm happy. I hope you feel the same way, but I always welcome some new ideas...... , Living Rooms Design

  • America's ugliest kitchen! , Help! I have no idea what to do with my kitchen and breakfast area. Well I know what I'd like to do, but ripping it all out is not an option right now :( As you can see it is very dark with all the wood cabinets and wood on all the walls.
I am going to replace the counter top and I was thinking of painting the
cabinets. Then I get stuck, should I also paint the wood on the walls? What about the wallpapered area above the wood? If it's all the same color that will be too much but different colors??? Any and all comments greatly appreciated.
Oh,what about the window frame and door, what color should they be?, Kitchens Design

  • HELP!! To Paint or not to Paint...the Fireplace, I really dislike the fireplace in our living room. It makes the room dark and old fashioned. We would like to redo the whole thing, however, we currently do not have the funds to do so. As a quick fix, I was thinking of painting the brick. Maybe a lighter color than the wall. Any suggestions?, Living Rooms Design

  • move to the "dark side"?, 1 side of 3 of my 90's builder grade kitchen. being on a tiny budget i am thinking about painting the cabinets deep brown/espresso color and adding hardware and a new back splash. i am wondering if the dark color would "close in" the space. There are 12ft ceilings, huge arched window to left and to the right an opening into our living room., Kitchens Design

  • Kitchen, We swapped the kitchen and dining rooms in our 1926 home to improve the flow. My husband did all the work from installing travertine floors to making the cabinets in a community college class. We're still in need of finishing touches--cabinet molding. We love the dark paint so the walls recede and cabinets are featured., Kitchens Design

  • Cozy Movie Lounge, A smallish space with low ceilings seemed perfect for a theater atmopshere. We moved the TV down and got a great couch. I was aprehensive about the dark color but I love blue so we went for it. We also kept the rough-sawn cedar panels and shelves and continued it in the trim. At some point we'll install a wall mount flat screen TV. Our inspiration piece was the Fosters beer light (our last name). I know it may seem tacky but we like it. • Kitchen Update, This is a photo of my updated kitchen. Luckily I have a lot of space and a lot of light and was able to choose a dark paint color for this space without it being overwhelming. The paint color is called "Gray" by Benjamin Moore; I used a mini roller to put chalkboard paint on the pantry door in black from Home Depot; light fixture, rug and chairs by West Elm; table by IKEA., Kitchens Design
