MARCH 15, 2009 - WILL UPLOAD NEW PHOTOS SOON, TOOK DOWN WHITE FRILLY THING, AND REPLACED ISLAND WITH VINTAGE BUTCHER BLOCK ON STEEL LEGS - My favorite room in our newly built house (besides soaking tub!. The 100 year old barn beams replace a load bearing wall to open up the kitchen to our living room. We used reclaimed butcher block (from a closed bakery in Georgia for our countertops and for that farmhouse cottage feel a Kohler apron fron sink. Bar stools came from Pier 1, pendant lights from Pottery Barn. Our home is a 30 year old ranch that lacks personality but we are trying to infuse our own cottage style into it. What's left to do? Install hardwood floors add baseboards door trim and beadboard and work on accessorizing. What you see is a work in progress but it's getting there! We've done all the work ourselves except intalling the brick backsplash but we did grout and paint/age it. We knew nothing about renovating when we moved in- lots of trial and error!

I love Cottage Style. I also adore retro, vintage kitchen items, red and aqua, and for some reason I am nuts for red and white polka dots. I've designed my kitchen around these likes and created a space that is warm and inviting to me and my family. Its a great place to start my day with a hot cup of coffee.

We did a redo on our kitchen which I have already posted. There are a few to do's we are still working on. One of them is adding feet to the kitchen cabinets.

We refurbished our old kitchen that had dark shabby walnut cabinets damaged formica counters and originally avocado green appliances and fixtures including the sink. We refaced the cabinets used gray granite for the counters white tile for the backsplash and red accents.

This an informal dinning space. The table is cherry with sea grass chairs. The lighting ties into the kitchen and living room as all rooms are open to each other.

This is my kitchen when we first moved in. It is now pained Salt Bush by Duron a green/khaki and the trim is also painted bright white.
