Just because the economy is dreary, doesn't mean my living room has to stay that way! Time for energizing new design, colors, fabrics! And, on a budget, please!

So a few months back i moved to this tiny "1 BR" apt. I'm on a tight budget! so ofcourse i went to the only rational place IKEA! Now that i've settled in i've realized that im not completely happy with my layout. PLEASE pass along an ideas for re-arranging! Oh and i know this sounds weird but i would love to have a tiny eating area in here being that i dont have space for it anywhere else in the apt im willing to lose the futon and the tv stand for this!

This is a table display I created for a major department store. Keep in mind that it is a store display so it's very over-the-top. It's very possible to interpret it in a smaller scale for your home. I also wanted to show how much drama you can create if you push yourself.

This is our 1926 Coral Face home. I am pleading for ideas. Where do I start with landscaping? What should be my first priority? We need parking for 4 cars and steps to the back doors for sure.

Even the sturgeon and the ray they get the urge to start to play under the sea! My 4 year old loves his underwater room complete with Captain's Cave (his closet. I free handed all of the graphics and we just love the way it has turned out.

A fun tween bedroom done in coral pink with a chocolate brown accent wall. The graphic floral sheet is PB Teen, and I coordinated it with a raspberry, coral, and white striped sheet from Target. The duvet cover is hot pink minky dot - so soft! The bedskirt was made from a striped sheet, and the valences were custom made from the PB Teen Chelsea floral fabric, edged with the stripe. I have light kits for the paper lanterns, but I want to make a platform to mount on the ceiling to conceal the wires. The bulletin board is based on the PB Teen 'Style Tiles' but I made them myself, including the custom colored chalkboard tile. The only tile I bought was the coral magnetic board. The chandalier is from IKEA. This is a bedroom for a 12 year old girl and she loves it!

This is our living room space, which has been a work in progress. It's full of texture and natural elements (corals on the fireplace mantel, bamboo shades, cozy and soft-to-the-touch microfiber seating.
The large-scale contemporary painting is from a wonderful artist who sells on Ebay (Jen Berry. The couch (Crate and Barrel and distressed leather chaise are finds from Craigslist. The pottery art on the shelves on either side of the painting come from student art sales at our local community college, as well as the plant bust on the table in the corner. (Along with a little Jonathan Adler thrown in with the fish ceramics.
I took color inspiration from the slate fireplace, and threw in a pops of green in the painting and accent pillows. The mirror above the mantle was my grandmother's, I believe from the Deco period. It has a slight pink cast to it.
The wallcolor is Oatmeal, by Ralph Lauren, but I am in the midst of re-painting it a soft and moody grayish blue ocean color -- Linen, Eddie Bauer for Valspar Paint. (I'll post new pics soon.
And I used a lot of glass tables in the room to create more visual space.
I hope you enjoy my space -- I would love to hear your suggestions!

As a proud owner of a 1970's ranch style home, I have been working hard to freshen up and makeover the space. The living room design inspiration was pulled from the classic styles of cottage homes. I also feel drawn to many beach details, so I included those aspects into the design as well. Many DIY projects needed to happen in order to make this space complete and stay on a budget. I feel like many of these humble touches made the room feel even more like a home. I hope you enjoy my living room makeover!

Here is my Blue and White nautical inspired living room in our Victorian cottage. We gutted the room and so everything you see is new except the windows.

We recently finished this bathroom remodel. My husband took a mahogany dresser that we purchased for $150.00. He completely refinished it and put seven coats of polyurethane to protect the top from water. When he cut the drawers down to accommodate the plumbing he detailed them so they would be completely usable. Some are deep so we still have good storage. We added a vessel sink with an oil-rubbed bronze faucet. Our floors are Tumbled Boticcino Marble. I made the shell/coral mirror with heavy duty hardware to support it on the wall. Color accents in towels, curtain and rug are Restoration Hardware Silver Sage.
