This is Alex's big boy room his first room without a crib. Everything in the room was created through the creativity of my wife and I. The stop light stop sign diamond plate shelf and steering wheel all came from e-bay. Grandpa donated the truck box made toy box and daddy made the wall mounted tire from spare car pieces he had laying around. The wheel/tire spins the steering wheel spins and the stoplight turns on and off via the wall mounted switch below.

Not completely finished but here is my 5 year old's requested Nascar room. The one wall is grey not white as it looks in the pics. I have to give DH credit for coming up with the idea for the dresser. It is two 3 drawer garage organizing units from Lowes with the work counter top attached. I think it fits the feel of the room perfectly and now my other son can have both "real" dressers in his room! The fathead was picked out by DS.

My 3 year old is a fan of the Disney Cars movie. His favorite car being Lightning Mcqueen and Mater. I was inspired by the rug and the checkered border around it.

My basement is filled with things that a. take up too much space, or b. need to be displayed. I'm hoping there's a new layout I can try. And that you guys have some good ideas for all my flags!!

If the link doesn't work and it says link doesn't exist on the blog, IT DOES EXIST. Just copy and paste it into the browser and it will work. I don't know why that happens sometimes. (The link adds a

at the end of the webaddress, you can also just delete that and it'll take you to the tutorial
I finally purchased a new couch and I love it. The couch is the Claudia Sofa from Macy's.
Now I'm still on the hunt for a new coffee table. I'm kind of getting sick of my ottoman which I had only bought because my kids were toddlers and I didn't want them to get hurt on hard edges and corners.
For the coffee table I think I will go with a gold Hollywood Regency table or a modern chrome and marble top table. Lets see what I can find in an affordable option.
A lot of people always ask me why I have light colored flooring even though that the trend is to go really dark. The reason is dust and dirt! Most of my friends that have dark floors go crazy trying to keep their dark hardwood floors looking clean. I don't, because you can't see the dust and cat hair from 4 cats as much. That is also the reason why I have a traditional persian style area rug. I actually would much rather have a graphic patterned rug but they are hard to keep clean again. I've tried other rugs before. The pattern of my rug is forgiving!
That is the reason why I have the ikea pillows. They are easy to wash and keep clean. And if one is ruined, they are cheap and easy to replace.
I guess I'd rather compromise with my large busy family. Two kids and four cats do make a lot of dirt but my house mostly looks clean!

We remodeled this kitchen for just over $1,000. We painted the cabinets black, put checkered vinyl floor, ikea countertop and apron sink, two chandeliers, and a beadboard backsplash. Now I need to accessorize it perfectly. I love all feedback so please tell me what you think.

After using my husbands old fashioned paisley, 25+ year old couches... We splurged a bit and bought new ones. We loved the couch in the showroom but now that they are in our living room...We absolutely hate it... The couches look way too plain against that color wall. Everything just looks awkward, plain...Just blah! And to top it off, we spent way more than we should have. With a tight budget in mind, what should we do? If we paint the back wall, what color? Wall decor/hanging over it? What does this room need to not look so blah? I know we need curtains... But I figured I should wait until we decide what we are doing with the wall thats against the couches... And what's making it tough is everything needs to tie into that checkered wall... And with the carpet being navy blue as well... Not sure if a navy blue accent wall will be over kill!
Please help...

Prior to our landscape remodel the space was a typical boring backyard. We were able to bring multiple entertainment areas in and still have grass for our pups to run around. We tapped into our house gas line to fuel our fire pit and grill, no more running to get propane refilled! The logs on our fire pit were constructed by a family member out of steel, so there are no messy ashes to clean. All in all we love the changes, and look forward to many parties!
