  • Painted Kitchen Cabinets, Here are a few photos of my "design on a dime" kitchen makeover. It's a work in progress. I hated my builder-grade, orange oak cabinets from the 1990s, so I painted over them, and added some Ikea handles. I plan to change the backsplash to something more modern soon, and tweak things here and there. It would be nice to have some under-cabinet lighting. This entire "reno" cost a few hundred dollars. It's definitely worth it if you want to give your oak kitchen an easy update., Kitchens Design

  • RED HOT Open Kitchen & COSY Living Area, We experimented with the "potential 's extend of what we had to work with"!

How to make our new place our own - with what came with the house and wasn't our taste at all. Bringing out the best in what we would've never picked if we were given a choice!

Recycling, not only for the beneficial economical reasons but also for the many more reasons we've all become gradually more aware of lately, hopefully., Kitchens Design

  • Truly Ugly Kitchen Designed by Crazy Lady, Truly ugly kitchen. Everything is painted green - painted counters, painted sink, painted faucet. Designed by previous owner who must have been CRAZY. We've started renovations slowly. next step to rip out the island and redo the floor!
I stripped the paint from the whole kitchen. found a triple bowl sink on craigslist and cut my own subway tile backsplash. I finished the renovations the night before we sold it., Kitchens Design

  • (Budget) Kitchen Makeover - The "Nesting" Syndrome, These are before and after pictures of our 1930's kitchen. Our goal was to re-do the kitchen as quickly and inexpensively as possible since we were expecting our second child soon. I guess you can say the "nesting" bug hit home. Ultimately, we repainted the walls golden yellow (for there was not any time to rip out the brick!) and laid down sheets of MDF wood coated with polyurethane as flooring. I'm proud to say that our $30 floor gets the most compliments from our friends/family and has held up very well over the past 4 years. We extended the counter by re-purposing a desk my husband made by adding metal legs and a laminate top; it provides a great space for extra seating as well. Although it doesn't have all of the bells and whistles, it has worked to serve our needs over the years, but now we need a change! We need more prep work space and new cabinetry. Playing tug of war with wooden drawers that stick resulting in saw dust everywhere is no longer okay to overlook. Would love to reconfigure the space somehow;any suggestions?, Kitchens Design

  • Teeny Kitchen that needs an update!, We have a small kitchen. It has a new white dishwasher, 9 year old black fridge, 16 year old oven that should be white...but is yellowing, and a broken built in microwave. It works but the handle is coming off. We painted the walls to match the rest of our house that we just did a makeover on and we would like to keep the wall color. Our cabinets are supposed to be white, but they're yellowing as well, our countertops are horrendous and our sink is very old and scratched up and discolored. We have a breakfast bar that we don't use as a breakfast bar, but just a counter. There is VERY little storage in the breakfast bar and we now use it for appliances because it is so small. We have a makeshift pantry for canned food, etc. and a pet storage and shelving unit on the other side of the breakfast bar. We have a microwave cabinet that we use for pots and pans storage with our bread basket and fruit basket on top. We have no storage and our kitchen was made very cheaply. I would love to remodel and somhow make a built in pantry and just get some more storage! Any tips or ideas for an inexpensive makeover?, Kitchens Design

  • 600 dollar throw away house garden, I bought a 600 dollar house marked for demolition. It is small but very charming and has incredible details from long ago building practices. The foundation is hand laid tooled rock and the siding is cedar clapboard, well it was under nasty green asphalt siding! The yard is immense, it came with half an acre of overgrown weeds, grass and rotten trees. From March til now, here is what I have been doing..., Gardens Design

  • Shoestring Remodel, This is a very low cost remodel. I wanted a new kitchen but found it to be very expensive. We searched some different internet sites and came up with ideas on how we could di it for under $1k! These ideas included painting our existing laminate countertops painting our cabinets and getting new hardware recovering the floor and chairs new lighting and a new modern wall color. The decorations were $200 of the total cost. We even brought a few tools so it is possible to do on a budget. , Kitchens Design

  • Cheap but Awesome Kitchen, When we bought our 50+ year-old house 10 months ago, the kitchen started out with peachey/pink walls, orangey cabinets, carpet, no dishwasher, tile counters that the grout was all gone and the cracks were black with gunk, sink that couldn't get clean, and stark fluorescent lights in kitchen and dining area, and carpet that we can't get clean. Oh, and PINK oven and stove!! We are on a very tight budget and have done all of this to our kitchen by painting walls and cabinets (black), free items being given to us (nice Corian counters from friends wanting granite, refrigerator from a sister getting a new one, recessed lights from same sister re-doing her house, dishwasher from a neighbor updating hers, table/chairs from my parents getting a new one), or the home warranty company replacing broken appliances, or getting items from yard sales and fixing them up and installing them ourselves, and we changed around some cabinets to make the space more user-friendly. Now we just need to get a matching refrigerator (with the home warranty!), over-the-stove microwave, and nice flooring to finish up our project. We are excited about our awesome kitchen done very cheaply!, Kitchens Design
