My First Place - a vintage Chicago rehab. I had to stretch the budget and learn on the fly but I'm happy with the final product. It was very fun to pick out almost everything from scratch - although working w a non-accommodating developer was difficult. I left down the walls to one of the bedrooms so that I was able to create this "great room" type space in the middle of the city. It houses the living room dining area and kitchen. The fireplace is original dating back to the late 1800s.

My 11 year old daughter finally got her own room so we had fun decorating it together. She picked all the colors and helped do all the decorating. Most of the "decorative" items in the room were made by her. I am proud of her choices and we had a lot of fun doing it together. Oh and we used so much of what we already had that it cost under 150 for the whole room. I have more info on my blog montanachic@wordpress.com

Before hand, the space was overrun by weeds, failing grass, and aggressive ivy. we decide to go with a balinese style of garden that evokes peace. I tryed using various plant material (suitable for shade that had texture and boldness. Combined with sculptural and hardscape, the union seemed to work. What really made the space come alive, is the outdoor painting (one of my creations of Ganesh on the far back wall.

For my freshman year at the University of Northern Colorado, I wanted to use my favorite color: yellow. Pairing it with black and white proved to make a dramatic impact.

We rent a 608 sq ft one bedroom heavy timber loft in a 1920’s shoe factory. Our design approach combines simple clean lines with classic mid century modern pieces. The hanging pendant and accent wall help to define our dining zone within the living room. The Jonathan Adler vase is filled with fresh seasonal flowers weekly.

These are the two spaces where we spend most of our time. I absolutely love the colors in these rooms -- I've used chocolate brown olive green and rust. Just recently added hardware to the cabinets all new kitchen chairs new sofas and added molding to the island and painted it black. I did all the molding in the room and made all of the window treatments. Enjoy!

We updated our New England kitchen to a modern style for about 5K. We ripped out the corner wall to expose brick from the furnace chimney; replaced the door window and floor moldings; added crown molding; painted the stock oak cabinets white trim white and walls sand; stained and installed butcher block counters; installed new sink; tiled the backsplash; added a french door to the pantry; replaced the ceiling fan; refinished the hardwood floors; and installed new stainless appliances.

My daughter wanted a pink room - and though I tried to talk her out of it, she insisted and I gave in. I figure she is a great kid, as 6 yr olds go, so how could I refuse. She made it clear, also, that she didn't want a pink for "babies" but for big girl - hence the evolution of her room.
Paint colors: "zany pink" SW and "corkboard" Eddie bauer.
Aside from most pillows, I sewed everything made out of fabric as I am a fabric junkie! I am especially proud of the canopy which I built, stitched and hung. Added an inexpensive plug-in chandelier to it (Hobby Lobby, $25 by attaching it to a hook on the cornice board and looping the cord around the back, hidden by fabric. Added a magnet board, framed with open-back frame. Painted it with magnet paint and top-coated with room color. Took vinyl lettering and instead of putting it on the wall - affixed it to a canvas painted to match the room - therefore easily moved!
Painting the stripe without it bleeding was a pain - but found a technique online that gave me the cleanest line I ever saw - especially considering the heavy texture on the wall! Quite pleased with how that turned out. Time-consuming, but perfect.
All in all, I am quite pleased with room and my daughter is thrilled to pieces. Thanx for looking!

I have a cookie cutter house but I think all the colors make it different. The whole house is red yellow blue and green. This room is predominately yellow and blue with a touches of red. It's a happy home.

We styled this living room-family room for function, serenity and organization. A full wall of built-in bookcases and a bar gave us lots to work with. The open floor plan and huge windows add light and the feeling of lots of space. The sectional sofa and coffee table are from Room and Board, the rug is from West Elm, and the bar stools were found on-line at Target. Pottery Barn ikat pillows add a pop of color.
