This is not a space for a mere amateur designer - fans out there, I DARE you to try to fix this problem! The 3 sided fireplace is a cozy option that splits a living and family room area. I love it and want to keep it. But I don't like the custom made entertainment center built-in and, er, chimney? Close ups are provided of the entertainment area to show the dust (and cat collecting ledges. HELP! Can you solve this problem in a budget-tight economy? I've never seen you "fix" a 3 sided fireplace problem. I would like to keep the tea green color (with red and yellow accents in the background, if possible.

We decided to convert our outdated built-in gun cabinet (what sort of house comes with a built-in gun cabinet?? into a butler's pantry/wine rack. It is such a more useful space to us now! Check out the detailed play-by-play at our blog: http://doordiy.wordpress.com/2011/08/28/rack-em-up/

My 15 year old wanted a more grown up room, so down came the yellow and blue walls, the Justin posters, the flower wallies. I started with her idea of a Parris theme, and worked around a beautiful dressing table we found. I spent a small fortune (for me on her curtains from another redo of her room so I had to try and fit them in by adding spots of pink around the room. I took down her ceiling fan and added the new light fixture. Because we buitl the bed in the unused attic space, I felt it needed something to extend into the room, so I used a chaise instead of a chair. I didn't want everthing just lining the walls. I do think it could use a bigger area rug, but I have to stick with something that can be thrown in the washer when needed. I wanted it to be taseful, worried about being tacky. I thought about black stipes for the walls but thought I would quit while I was ahead. Are there too many efflel towers?

Excellent design made this new kitchen blend well with my older home. Now: great layout in our galley kitchen, plenty of storage and counter space by changing a wall, sleek, easy to cook and beautiful elements like counter top, tile, cove ceiling and lighting! We LOVE it!!!
Before: fake red painted paneling, dropped acoustic ceiling, 10 layers of linoleum, dingy pantry, bad location of doors to kitchen. Credit to: Architect: Alan Baer of Kingston, NY, Contractor: PD Remodeling in Westchester and Cabinets: Kitchens & Closets By Design of New City, NY.

This living room is in transition... I am inspired by orange walls with chocolate, black, taupe, & off-white decor. Perhaps I will accent with a deep twilight teal-blue. I'm looking for a tall giraffe, ficus-type tree, & something to decorate the big overbearing wall.

This nursery was a big DIY and turned out great! The artwork is a transportation theme, but can be switched out with anything you like. The wainscoting makes the room feel so finished. More details are at http://janette.drost.ca/2012/03/calebs-nursery/.

We are expecting our first child in August!! When remodeling a small guest bedroom into his nursery, we decided to leave the closet doors off and design a built-in wardrobe instead to help open up the space. We also added wainscoting to the room and a custom storage bench to match the wardrobe. Here's the finished product!

Casual, yet elegant kitchen with lighted glass cabinets, large island, and beautiful tile backsplash. Contrasting island and hood in mocha finish. Range hood is framed behind kitchen island with two drum chandeliers. Touches of elegance are the deep rich colors, contrasted by the medium taupe-greys in the tiled backslpash. The backsplash over the cooktop has crushed glass tiles as the frame, with casual patterned tile as the backdrop. Hand-painted pottery and Bohemian crystal carefully arranged in the lighted cabinets, give the feel of casual elegance.

Our family room was renovated to include built-in cabinetry, a gas fireplace and a much improved home theater system. Whether we watch TV, listen to music, read, work on the computer, or just sit and chat with the family, it's a great room to unwind and relax.

Our like-new home had a formal living room in it, but it was a very small dark box, so we decided to knock out the wall leading to the family room and put in French doors and built-in shelves and storage. What a difference it made!

We bumped a little bit of space out of our famiy room into the garage (3' x 6' and made a fun built in corner desk with shelving and a storage bench with a cushion for reading. It has bead board backed shelves and art style walls (salon walls with photos I've taken and objects that have meaning to our family.
