  • Brick Rancher In Desperate Need Of Help!, This is a bad picture but I own a brick rancher that has red brick with a small amount of black. The gables and garage doors are currently white. The roof is a light brown color. I recently added hunter green shutters which I would like to keep if possible considering I just put them up. I am hoping to have a cottage type home. Would painting the white green be to much.I am in desperate need of help with colors and landscaping. , Home Exterior Design

  • Help Me With My Brick Rancher!, Thanks to everyone who commented and helped me with my space. I have decided to go with black shutters and a black roof. I am going to keep the siding white for now. Now what about the front door and garage doors on the side that are currently white? Also what about my outside lighting? Should I go with a silver finish or a black finish on my lights? Thanks again!, Home Exterior Design

  • Updated Brick Rancher Still Needs Help!, Here is an updated picture of the work that has been done. I have had a new roof put on and added black shutters as many suggested. Should I paint the white siding? What should the front door and garage door colors be? Should I change to black or silver lights? I am also thinking of adding thicker columns along with railing along the front porch. How about landscaping? I would like to have red maple trees but have no idea about other landscaping. , Home Exterior Design

  • Appetite for Inviting Curb Appeal, My home is a typical brick rancher like every other house on my street. The only thing to set it apart are the barely visible window boxes. The yard is nice and green but boring. Our house is for sale in this terrible market and in dire need of some curb appeal to help set us apart and draw people in!, Yards Design

  • Needs help!, Purchased this home 2 yrs ago and all the work has been done inside the home. Now its time to invest on the outside. It needs lots of help and as soon as the weather breaks in MD, I plan on making the exterior my priority--its so flat and the yard is huge. I also hate the color of the siding so any suggestions would be great. We also have a huge deer issue so my landscaping has to be deer resistant--which means limited, unfortunately. The roof will be cleaned next month and I have a contract for walkway., Home Exterior Design

  • North Coast Rancher in need of a Facelift, We bought our 1955 rancher last year and it is well past time to update the curb appeal. We are on the beautiful north coast of Oregon and have incredible views of the bay from our house. The problem with the front of our house, the side that faces the street, is that it is really the back of the house. All of our living spaces - the living room, dining room and kitchen face south with the great views, and the bedrooms and bath are in the "front" of the house that faces the street. We want to repaint this summer, and will be putting our window boxes back up as well. We definately need some updating and would love to hear your ideas!, Home Exterior Design

  • Mid-Michigan Sustainable Landscape,
This project is considered one of the most exciting and unique residential environmental projects of its kind in the mid-Michigan area. This project is the first residential sustainability project in the mid-Michigan area that helps protect our water resources. The homeowners are very committed to doing their part to help the environment. They chose to undertake this project as a way to demonstrate and teach the mid-Michigan area, as well as the world how we can have a beautiful hardscape and softscape, but greatly reduce our impact on the environment. All of these Low-Impact Design (LID) elements work together as storm water management tools.

The project features magnificent Allan Block retaining walls and decorative pillars encompassing the entire front yard and a set of beautiful, custom, curved steps at the city sidewalk. The downspouts on the front of the home were designed to drain into two gorgeous rain gardens filled with perennials and ornamental grasses. Belgard 'Subterra' permeable paver landings and walkways create the beautiful random cobblestone surfaces that lead you between awe-inspiring pillars through the front garden down a ramp to the permeable paver driveway. The front concrete city sidewalk was removed and replaced with permeable concrete.

This project broke ground on the morning of August 15, 2008 and was completed Saturday, October 4, 2008., Gardens Design

  • Blue House, We are thinking about selling our home and we are trying to come up with ways to maximize the curb appeal. Someone suggested painting the red brick veneer and porch. Everyone I ask seems to agree that the red brick has to go. The brick is not in the best of shape. Painting brick scares me and I really don't want to mess it up. Painting the rest of the house is not an option financially. Any advice or suggestions would help immensely!, Home Exterior Design

  • Broken concrete to brick driveway, The original driveway was concrete, and dominated the entire yard. It was in terrible shape, and was painted green at one time. We wanted something that was more fitting to the age of the home, yet gave it a more updated modern feel. I salvaged the brick from a building that was torn took 3 van loads and working until 2 am to get it all home! But the price was right., Other Spaces Design
