Nakoda's Nest is a nursery for our new baby girl. The room was inspired by birds and the bird cage that we converted into a lamp. We wanted to create a space that a little girl could grow in to.

Our un-heated rear porch becomes our cozy and warm dining area every year to celebrate the holidays. This year (2011, 2 weeks before Christmas, we decided to paint the room to make the room extra brighter.

I fell in love with a wendy bellisimo bedding that I found at babies r us. I took the the colors and ran with it. Raspberry, lime and pale pink. I knew I wanted certain things in the room, like the dramatic wall. I'm so glad all the pieces fell into place and the room came together in the end.

An economical ($1000! nursery for our new baby Jude! Inspired by vintage, antique pieces that were spruced up, bold textures/patterns, and a taste of a winter woodland theme, this nursery was done on a budget and many of the projects were created by us. Accessories, furniture recovering, fabric choices, wall hangings, etc. were DIY and very cheap!

This room was blue when I moved in. I painted it hot pink!! The pink was different but it hurt my head after a while. SO back to blue, but a better blue. I painted the ceiling dark brown partly as an experiment to see if I would like it, and partly to hide the imperfections, cracks, bumps, and glued on stars!!! Turns out, I do love a brown ceiling and have since painted the bedroom ceiling and will soon paint the bathroom. Anyone thinking about painting a ceiling dark brown....don't be afraid!! Although I must say, I think white crown molding is a must in such an endeavor.
So anyway, this is my favorite room so far but I am open to any suggestions you may have. Several minds are better than one.

A plumbing disaster has lead us to remodel. Definite decisions so far : retain / fix the original tile (Dal-tile; Brixton line. Convert an old salvaged cabinet to a built in. Replace vanity. Remove tub for a full size shower enclosure with glass doors. Going for elegant modern. Need color suggestions. Vanity area ideas shower faucets hardware ceiling treatment ideas ...everything in between. Will add photos as I make decisions or get new ideas!

Thank you for viewing my flowers. I find flowers to be so fascinating especially when you look at how they are ‘put together’ ... This year I took close-ups of some of Mother’s greatest works of art -- a miracle of modern engineering! Take a close look at the stamen on many of them... they are all different! The colors are amazing and the dust that covers the stamen is so cool! I hope you enjoy these close-ups as much as I enjoyed shooting them!

Built-ins are cabinetry that are built in to the structure of a room so cannot be moved around.I'm taking a great old pine cabinet that was in my grandfather's shed and making it the main component of a built-in wall for my guest bathroom.

We are awaiting the gender of our little angel, but I really wanted to create a space that both sexes would love to be in. I also wanted it bright and cheery and warm. I found the pattern for the birds online, and my grandmother and I sewed them all by hand, then let both sides of our family "adopt" them and put messages inside them for the little one to enjoy when he/she gets older. It's literally a family tree!
My husband cut and dried branches from our magnolia tree, and I sealed them so nothing flakes off. We even found empty bird's nests around the yard, baked them to kill anything, and put them in the branches.
We painted with a tone-on-tone pattern, using satin and high gloss stripes for a very subtle effect on the walls. I made the curtains and crib sheet to match and brighten the room.
This was a nursery on a budget. overall, including furniture and toys and everything, it cost us about $300 for everything (yard sales & gifts!!.
