  • Fireplace/Bookcase Makeover BEFORE & AFTER, Before... this piece is builder grade glossy white with little appeal. AFTER.... now a rich dark tone with hints of metallic bronze throughout.   • Family Room Fireplace and Built-in Bookcase Remodel, When we moved into our "new" 1960's home, the family room needed a LOT of work. The focal point of the room is a fireplace that is flanked by two built-in bookcases. As you can see from the BEFORE photo, the fireplace was an ugly painted cream brick and the shelves were that nice 70's wood tone. We transformed the bookcases by painting them white and adding new moulding and hardware and then we lined the back of the bookcases with burlap and styled the shelves. For the fireplace, we had a gas fireplace insert put in to replace the wood burning fireplace and then used stone veneer to transform its look. We debated about a fireplace mantel but decided not to add one so the space had a more clean look.   • Nursery Turned Toddler Girl Room, When my daughter turned 2 we updated her nursery into a big girl's room with a twin bed. The hand-me-down dresser was originally plain oak.   • Refurbishing grandma's bookcase, I inherited my great-grandma's old bookcase a few years ago. It was in decent structural condition but was pretty ugly, and it took me a long time to mess with it because of the sentimental value. However, I cleaned it up, sanded it down and painted it, added new knobs for the top drawer...and viola! I love it! And I'm pretty sure my grandma won't mind. , Other Spaces Design

  • Modified IKEA bookcases, We've wanted to build-in book storage for some time and searched crags list for used bookcases that I could piece together and trim out to give a unified built-in feel. I gave up on craigslist (or just ready to get the project done) and purchased three all-wood IKEA bookshelves. 2 large and 1 small in the middle.
