My room was actually two smallish bedrooms and I had the connecting wall knocked down right away. Then I had my husband section off a walk-in closet for ME & me alone.: From there he tore out the carpeting & replaced it with woodflooring, got rid of the door going to the room that no longer existed and hung drywall. We hired a wonderfu, locall artisan of crown molding for my ceilings & did the painting also. Replaced the furnace covers with vintage looking oiled brass ones. All the while I put in many hours and money (Ha! shopping via my Pottery Barn Catalogs and several FANTASTIC web sites...including EBAY. The result...my dream bedroom and closet. OH, and I MUST give Lowe's their credit for the outstanding Dark wood shelves, cubby holes and drawers we purchased from them.

When my husband and I found out we were having a little girl, my wheels immediately started spinning and construction began! I have always loved wainscot, so that was the first DIY project my husband tackled. I maximized space by setting the armoire caddy-corner with a changing station to the left and the crib directly on the opposing wall. The glider and ottoman is also caddy corner next to the changing station. I found an antique mahogany two-tier table with scallop edging from Craigslist -$50- and refinished it in a black pearl stain with gold etching and tulip flowers with the letter M for Baby Madison. The picture-in-picture was a design inspiration that my mom found in an interior decor magazine. We replicated the idea, wallpapering each of the inside panels bordered with molding, and placed vintage pictures that have been with my family for several years. On the 'changing station' wall, the other two picture-in-pictures have wired vintage figures of a manikin silhouette and Eiffel tower for that Parisian flare. My mother-in-law made all the bedding, drapery, and diaper hanging sack from fabric we picked out a local fabric warehouse in Buena Park, CA. The crib cornice and curtain tie backs were a great find at the Princess Canopy Shop on Etsy. They are stained in black pearl with brass/gold etching. My husband designed the M font and worked with an online wood-work company to produce the finished product at a greatly reduced price -under $40-. I bought the hanging chandelier on closeout with black shades and matching pink bows were tied using the leftover pink satin bedding fabric. The furniture is by Munire, purchased at USA Baby and the lamp was purchased on clearance at Tuesday Morning -$50-. I shopped around for the rug after finding that on an interior design website, I bought it for 50% less than retail from BoldRugs.com after they price matched another competitors price. The crib mobile was purchased on target.com.

Art Deco inspired contemporary 300 sq ft custom kitchen. We built this kitchen addition and dining room renovation on weekends w/ the help of our friend and professional contractor. It took a long time but it was worth saving about 40K on labor. The cabinets are maple shaker style....base cabinets are charcoal and snow drift top cabinets accented w/ irridescent glass tile backsplash over sink area. Marina pearl granite 10' 3" x 54" tops the snow drift island w/ prep sink, microwave & hidden trash. 17' stretch of counter consists of 6 burner cook top w/ red tiffany glass backsplash and charcoal butler's pantry has glass door upper cabinets. Floor is Italian 16" x 24" porcelain grey w/ random cream tiles in a staggered subway tile layout. The window over sink is 6 feet wide. Full glass side door and 6 foot sliding door to yard bring in lots of natural light. When it snows, you feel like you are standing in a snow globe because of the room shape and windows! Check out our space and let us know if it has the 'wow' factor! Enjoy!

We completely gutted our 1970's kitchen. The old kitchen cabinets were horrible. Not only was the quality and color horrible but the shelves were too close together, boxes of crackers and other items could not be placed upright! In addition to the cabinets the rectangular tile countertops and linoleum floors added to the outdated look. Our new kitchen has walnut cabinets, stainless steel appliances, six burner gas cooktop, granite countertops, hardwood floors, beverage center, ice maker, a dishwasher drawer in addition to a regular dishwasher. Take a look for yourself at the before and after pictures. Major transformation!!

I gathered inspiration from pictures I've seen in magazines and came up with a beautiful kitchen that works for us. My husband and I prepare many meals together without bumping into each other around our kitchen island and sink. We like the many deep and wide drawers instead of hard to reach cabinets. I just added the 4" granite tile backsplash and my husband put up the flower boxes outside the windows allowing the red geraniums to stand tall and be seen from the inside. Our kitchen is our favorite part of the house where we hang out the most.

This is my large formal living room. I am looking for some help on choosing a paint colour because I think it needs to be warmed up or at least livend up. I would also appreciate design or layout tips if anyone has suggestions.

My husband found this red couch. I started from there and found a soft yellow color for the walls. Eventually, I will convince my husband to repaint the room a slightly deeper yellow. I think it would be warmer with less contrast. But I don't see that happening anytime soon. Do you think it's too many dark colors? I realize red is a bold color choice for furniture. Although I'm not sure this couch screams ME I do like it and would love to read what you think is and isn't working in my space.
