  • Basement Apartment NEEDS HELP, This is the living room in the apartment I'm moving into. It is in the basement of a really old dormitory, so all the pipes and such show on the walls and I can't paint, either. I'm having an awful time figuring out how to make this wall space attractive and functional. There's not much space for wall art on the two walls with windows, and I don't feel like I can put anything nice up against the radiators. HELP??? Suggestions! (I'm a grad student, so this needs to be pretty low-budget, too.), Living Rooms Design

  • My first place, This is a basement apartment which is being currently renovated. The walls were gutted and the kitchen, dining room and bedroom were stretched out. We also added a small walk in closet. Its a pretty open space. The bathroom remain untouched. We are just currently installing ceramic tiles which have a brownish tone to it., Basements Design

  • Vaguely Victorian Basement Living Room, I recently moved out of my basement apartment, but this is its living room. It was a fun exercise in making a dark cave-like space feel warm and cozy instead. We've still got most of the same furnishings and art, so advice is still appreciated. • Basement Apartment Needs Help, I have appox a 1000 sq. foot basement that has 2 bedrooms, a full bath, living area/dining area, kitchen(although its empty) and a laundry space. It has been basically empty since we bought our house 10 yrs ago other then our son sleeping down there when he lived with us, he has just bought his own home now and we have our daughter who lives with us,with her 2 children, a 1 yr old and a 4 yr. old, little girls, But it is getting very crowded upstairs, we'd love to make the basement into an apartment for her and her children. It doesnt need much, just someone that knows what their doing on a low budget (lol) we would also need some kind of a 2nd exit in case of an emergency for them if they were to move down there and have no idea how we'd do that. It would be so Great to have them still close by, but Not Quite So Close. :) Please Help!! , Basements Design

  • In-law suite, We are building an in-law suite in the basement of our son's new home, in order to allow for slightly longer visits without affecting their family dynamics. It will have a bedroom, bath, eat-in kitchen, small craft room for the grandkids, and family room. I'm thinking of the "beachy" colors: watery blue-green, light celery, and a sand colored sofa bed. Since it has 2 typical high basement windows, we'd like to visually enlarge them and could use some ideas. It's in the northeast so we want radiant heat in the bath & kitchen. It's a blank canvas with 7' high ceilings. There are only a couple regular-size windows, so we're concerned about it feeling dark (and we both crave daylight)! And the really tricky part is that our budget is $20,000. Please take a look at my photos; would love to hear from you. Thanks., Basements Design
