Teenage boy's room; the space was a challenge because our home is a story and a half, so we had to deal with a 36" knee wall. We wanted to make the most of every inch of the room, so we built our own furniture. We added built in closets, window seat (with storage inside it, 9- 18"x22" drawers, 2 book shelves and a crawl space to use storage underneath the bed. It was also a challenge to create an aviation themed room that wasn't "cutesy". Adding the airplane panels, the 1917 propeller replica, the airplane print and the high flight poem to the wall helped!

This office was a large open space before the project began. The walls were a bright yellow and the room was boring. We transformed it into a 1940's Aviation inspired home office that is cozy, functional, and visually stunning.

I wanted to create a fun, all boys room for our new little guy. The room is really small, so it needed to be bright and airy. Our two year old loves it, so hopefully Ian will too!

We updated our plain guest bedroom into our little aviator's new nursery. We put up beadboarding, crown molding, and painted the top half of the wall blue. The bedding and drapes are from Pottery Barn. We used vintage airplane prints for the art. We especially love the black and white of the Spirit of St Louis over Paris and the little red airplane clock from Pottery Barn.

We chose a dark grey/stormy blue for the walls, with pops of white, red, and silver as accents. Vintage aviation prints and model airplanes complete the room.

My son's room was decorated in airplanes due to his love of aviation airplanes and all things involving flying. I painted the walls a light blue (ceiling included and did whispy clouds all through the room. I then painted planes and hung planes from the ceiling. The bedding is neutral but the pillows are special - my Grandmother took aviator patches and sewed them to the pillows - for a special one of a kind look. I wanted to design a space that our son would grow into as he got older. I wanted to avoid the baby feel and create a fun, bold space. My husband is a pilot so added some aviation details.

Our house is three stories tall and pretty narrow (urban contemporary patio home. We've turned the entire third floor into a play area for my son and any of his little guests. Right now he's two, so the space is designed to accommodate kids close to that age. As he grows old the space will change with his interests.
The space is made up of one large open play area, a full bathroom, and a bedroom.

Using half of the homeowner furnishings and half staging inventory shows how to mix it up to create a more sellable home. I share these so that whether you are trying to sell your home, or if you are just looking for ways to reinvent your home for everyday living, you may be able to look for some new ways to repurpose your furnishings just with some rearranging or accessorizing. Even dated furnishings can look more current if you just bring in the right accessories. This can be a very cost effective solution to starting from scratch, before you can afford to do a full redesign. Unlike my previous post, which was a very small home redesigned, this home was enormous-over 5,200 sq. ft. of dated rooms! We had to use as much as possible of the homeowners, but some things were deal breakers as you will see throughout the tour of before and afters.
