  • Glue Gone Wild!, Some of you enjoyed my Sharpie Art projects, so I thought I would share this crazy idea I had. To give the art work a 3-D effect I used a hot glue gun to give it dimension and interest. I then painted the background using watered down paint with a circular paint dobber. I went over the whole area, including the glue, but in the center for the gingko leaves I dipped the dobber in extra water to make it lighter. I then used a Marks-a-Lot marker over the hot glue areas. I found these markers work better than the Sharpies, as they leave a shinier finish. The end product almost looks like glass! Something out of the ordinary and unique. It's a super inexpensive project. Think outside of the box and give it try!, Living Rooms Design

  • Formal, warm and inviting living room, This is the room that would typically be called the formal living room. We are casual and have young children. I think the space is well suited to our lifestyle. It is a perfect space for conversation or to curl up and read a book. After dinner parties we generally circulate into the space for after dinner drinks and dessert. I still need to change out the previous drapery. It is not my style. It does match to some degree so it has been a little farther down on my to do list. I'll get them done, hopefully this year. Enjoy and thanks for looking!, Living Rooms Design

  • DIY Cheap, Chic Art!, A lot of you liked my Sharpie Art posts, and even though I told you it was easy, you said you could never do it. So here's a project you can totally do and it's super cheap. I bought these canvases half off for $5 a piece at Michaels. Then I used leftover house paint for the background and simply used a circular paint dobber. Two of the circle colors were also leftover paint and then I bought a 33 cent bottle of silver metalic paint and of course my handy Sharpie to do a rough, non-precise outline around the circles. So for less than $12 I have two contemporary pieces of art! So really-you can do this!, Living Rooms Design

  • Easy Contemporary-3 DIY Projects, Some of you enjoyed my other "Sharpie Art" and "Cheap Chic Art", so here's an even easier trio of art for less than $20. Like the other this is done on half price canvases, with left over house paint, and Sharpies. So, it's like painting with a marker. It looks like a painting, but it's so much easier, as you have more precision with a Sharpie. You guys really can do this-it's super easy. Where else could you get 3 pieces of original artwork for about $6 a piece?!, Living Rooms Design

  • Baby Victor's Modern Nursery, Oh what fun! I am so glad to be here today sharing photos from my latest project, baby Victor’s nursery. The space feels so airy, but cozy. There is a beautiful texture wall made from wood and white 3D wall tiles. A little bit of green, some gray and a touch of red brings life to the space. The room is a continuation of the design style of my home. But here it has a whimsical feel. With lion and horse figures, animal art prints, and a fox decal, this nursery is a woodland heaven.

Here is a list of where you can find all the lovely items in this nursery:
- Crib: IKEA
- Curtains: Pottery Barn
- Red V Metal Letter: Pottery Barn Teen
- Animal Art Prints: Sharon Montrose
- Print Frames: Target
- Crib Bumper: Dwell Studio
- Elephant Photo Frame: Dwell Studio
- 3D Wall Tiles:
- ABC and Number Canvasses:
- Cloud Mobile:

  • Church Nursery, We calmed down a 1960s intense yellow to a soothing palette of Sherwin-Williams Saffron Thread Cay Frolic Hep Green and Ancestral Gold. Ancestral Gold was our base and neutral color. The greens were used to make the stripes on two of the walls. Cay was used to create the plaid walls using glaze. The long floor-to-ceiling curtains are for the privacy of the mothers and sleeping babies., Nurseries Design

  • My Venice Inspired Bedroom, I spent a week at the Gritti Palace in Venice (Italy, not California) and wanted my (much smaller!) bedroom to have that feel. That Venetian room was full of rich fabrics, textured walls and murals. My house was built in 1928, so I already had the textured walls. The rest I did! I'm particularly pleased with the cabinet that is masked by a large mural. My mother had done a painting of water lilies which already was in the room, so I based the mural on that. The other paintings and rug defined the color scheme and there is a subtle, unifying theme of lilies throughout. The duvet is polyester so my dog can lie on the bed without damaging it. (That's the most important thing! It's really the dog's house -- I'm lucky he lets me live there at all.), Bedrooms Design

  • Sharpie Art! Cheap, Contemporary & Easy, I had been looking for some artwork for my home and had been drawn to the bold, modern, graphic art. I couldn't find exactly what I wanted and a lot of it was pretty expensive. It didn't appear that the art I was seeing would be very had to do, so I thought I would give it a whirl myself. Talk about cheap-I bought the canvas at 50% off for only $7, then I used leftover house paint and rolled it on, and then I thought about trying to actually paint something, but I had a crazy idea to see if I could "paint" with a Sharpie and it worked! I thought I would have more control then I would with a paint brush. It was super easy and I was done in about an hour! I looked online for some inspiration by looking through and some real photos and just kind of came with with my own rendering. I'm in the process of finishing up a coordinating piece, so that I will have two unique contemporary art pieces that I can hang together. Give it a try and leave me a post if you were able to create your own unique artwork! (I'll post the second piece tomorrow when I finish it up, so please check back if you want to see the pair.), Living Rooms Design
