Built-ins add storage ...

This is a second home in Florida that lacked storage and interest. So I designed the built in storage unit and a valance over the patio doors to add a little more interest and storage. The TV unit makes the entertainment a little more refined. It was built in paint grade plywood veneers. I did the painting. The screen on the cabinet that holds the sound system and other electronics is rug hooking fabric painted the same color as the cabinets. It's inexpensive and the controls shoot through it perfectly. I'd like for this to be the family/entertainment room. We spend most of our time here. The previous owners left the tv, along with the hole in the wall for the entertainment system. I would like some shelving on the walls but not sure where to begin.

Living room is in need of major updating - futon needs to be replaced, innovative TV unit needs to be devised (current one is old and clunky and space needs to better incorporate both adult and kid needs while also pulling everything together design-wise. It's pretty random at the moment.

We spend a LOT of time in this room, but have not spent a lot of time decorating it. And, now that we have an 18-month-old son, we need to make sure it has things for him too. Because it is only a two-bedroom condo, there is limited storage space and so toys, jackets, shoes, CDs, etc. end up just piling up anywhere, which drives us all crazy! And, with the futon couch and chair (and with my 40th birthday around the corner, I'd love for our place to feel less college student dorm and more adult and euro-cool homey.
