  • What's Up With That Bathroom?, Outdated, inefficient use of space, and a tub that's too large for the bay window. Actually, the master bathroom was top of the line in the early 90's with heated floors, steam shower, and jetted tub. The bay window also has custom stained glass windows in an art-deco style. However, the shower is 3'x5', we have to close the door to turn on the lights and open the door to open drawers. The tub must have been picked out after the space was designed. Although it's a fabulous Kohler jetted tub, it sticks out into the middle of the room. There's also a wall that has no cabinets, mirrors or sensible use. My husband refers to the bathroom entry as a "tunnel". We think there is great potential and would love to hear suggestions!, Bathrooms Design

  • Junk room-turned spa!, Our townhome's master bath was made in the 80's....and had not been redone since! It had a small bath/shower unit that looked like an irish springs soap bar, a single vanity and a wall mirror. It was a hidden and used as a junk closet for a few years there out of embarrassment... We began working on it in April. ("we"=my husband)).

We found a self-enclosed steam shower unit from a local dealer advertising on Craig's list. The dealer was trying to clear a showroom of 2008 units. While there, we found a modern double vanity with vessel sinks for less than $800....in addition, found a jacuzzi tub....for a steal. We were on a roll off of Craig's list, where we found a nice low-profile (working, not cracked) toilet for about $50 (changed the seat :)...), and also found bamboo hardwoods for less than $60 to cover our entire <100 square feet master bath. We picked up a mirror from Ikea for less than $60, and there we go! Our pendants came from home depot and my husband put in recessed lighting on a dimmer. I found the fixtures off of West Elm's clearance "aisle" off their website.

My husband did all the plumbing (copper, PVC), hardwooding, and crown molding (unfinished at the time in the pictures) by himself during his off-time from work. We love our new bathroom!!!

  • Walk at the Beach, We enlarged this bathroom to accommodate a custom shower, tub sink and vanity and an open water closet. The shower was the inspiration, starting with the floor. We collected beach and river stones from our travels from Cape Cod, to Maine to New Brunswick, Canada. We used a combination of standard materials and custom built materials. The walls and ceiling are painted the same to expand the space, and the radiant floor heating warms your feet like walking on the sand at the beach on a summer's day. , Bathrooms Design

  • Bathroom Redo, Space was originally a very small bath, next to a walk in closet. We combined the 2 spaces and put in a very large shower with room for two and a steam unit. Of cource we used a natural quartz on the counter and mixed stone backsplash, with double sunken sinks. The addition of a linen closet in the bath, along with 2 mirrored medicine cabinets is terrific. But a true feeling of luxury comes from the towel warmer by Brookstone., Bathrooms Design

  • Master Bath Remodel, This remodel cost us $8500 and we did the work ourselves. Got rid of the ugly, huge bath tub and added a steam shower, vessel sinks, customer countertop to match the floor, tiled walls, stone tiled floor, make-up vanity, longer vanity, and new blinds! Took a while, but we love it!, Bathrooms Design

  • Master Bath - Skinny Room - Contemporary, When we reconfigured our existing house we were able to add on a 7 X 18 addition for the Master Bath. We were able to get in (2) 30" wall hung vanities, a 72" airbath with oval surround and a 4'X4' steam shower with ceiling mount rainhead and handshower.. Also a seperate water closet - YEAH! To save more space we hung our satin glass doors on a exposed sliding system for both the master door and the toilet door. We have storage in the large medicine cabinets, large pullout drawer in the vanities and a wall hung storage unit. Water closet has floor to ceiling shelving unit for towels, etc.We scored and stained the concrete floors., Bathrooms Design

  • Master Bath remodel, We took our builder grade bathroom and turned it into an asian inspired spa -like retreat using natural stone and wood finishes to transform our space. The floors and shower walls are honed slate. The shower floor and ceiling are also slate, but without the honed finish. We created a water closet by adding a wall and were able to include a spacious linen closet. The steam shower includes speakers creating a place to chill out and listen to music. Cherry wood was used for the cabinetry and wainscoting in natural mohogany adorns the ceiling., Bathrooms Design

  • Contemporary or Traditional? I got my way! (for once) , We had a 8 year old builder's grade master bath that my wife simply hated. We decided to redesign the bath to our tastes and we think it looks great! I've got to admit, the room design suits my contemporary tastes much more than my wife's traditional preferences. Believe it or not, the heated marble floors are my favorite thing about the entire bath., Bathrooms Design

  • Master Bath Makeover , Like most cookie cutter builder bathrooms with large, unused bathtubs, this bathroom was in need of a redo. The goal was to make it feel like a hotel bath or spa and that goal was certainly achieved. This was my first bath and it was completely DIM (myself) - both design and build - except I had a friend help with the shower pan. We also used epoxy grout for the shower pan which is a two person job as well - and highly recommended., Bathrooms Design

  • Asian Inspired Master Bath, This is a relatively small Master Bathroom. The vanity has a frosted top with a center curve for interest. The mirror was framed with the same frosted detail as a frame would have been too busy for the small wall. Steam shower has an asian inspired detail on the back wall.
