  • Smiling Kitchen , Original 1950's small split level kitchen was finally gutted and renovated. Small space about 124 inches by 105 inches. Amazing renovation done in August 2010! Although we didn't enlarge the space seems so much bigger after cutting hole in wall to dining room and moving fridge. My entire house is smiling. : ), Kitchens Design

  • Asymmetrical Kitchen Remodel, Before moving into this newly purchased home, the owners had an opportunity to remodel the kitchen. Built in 1990, this kitchen was compartmentalized and outdated. The island was too small and a bottleneck formed between the island and refrigerator. The owners wanted to open up the space to the living and dining areas.

Inspired by Mexican contemporary architecture, the kitchen was transformed. The tile backsplash, dark counters and small island were all removed. The florescent light box was swapped with cool pendants and recessed lighting. A new kitchen sink is now located under a new picture box window allowing views to the street. Overhead cabinets in a bright, fun hue and open wood shelving with accent lighting and decorative tile bring functionality to the space. The cooktop remains in the enlarged, asymmetrical island and now accommodates seating. Some appliances were updated and a new pantry with additional storage was constructed around the refrigerator. Finishing the look is new Brazilian Pecan hardwood flooring.

Now this family has an updated, contemporary kitchen that is open to the living spaces and can freely enjoy hosting friends and family.

  • Split Level Kitchen Bananza!, This was your typical split level home kitchen. Big ugly wall, old cabinets, and a very closed in feeling. Now... We have knocked some walls down, remodeled basically everything, and are loving our new open area! There are lots of little things that cannot be seen in the pictures. One example is that the light button on the microwave also controls 4 lights under the cabinets that have 3 settings of brightness to add some extra light on the countertops. And yes, there is a door on the spice cabinet by the sink now! :), Kitchens Design

  • Don't be afraid to paint wood white!, Original 1959 time capsule kitchen. We wanted to freshen it up without spending tons and keeping with the character of the rest of the house.

We kept the solid wood cabinets, but painted, trimmed and routered them to give them a whole new look. Butcher block counters from Ikea were an inexpensive but rich looking option.

New stone-look vinyl floors were installed. Stainless steel appliances and fixtures give the new kitchen a rustic modern feel. Dark brown paint was used above the cabinets and a color called 'Almond bisque, a very pale neutral yellow on the lower walls.

More pictures to come.

All in all, exclusing new appliances we spent about $3000 for this huge makeover., Kitchens Design

  • Young's Kitchen, The space has been decorated in this fashion since 2008. The cabinets are a mint green color, the walls are a darker shade of green with an orange accent wall. White appliances. The space is big enough for table to eat-in, but not large enough for a island. Give me your feedback., Kitchens Design

  • Contemplating Cabinets in New Home, We are painting the walls in the spring, but also trying to decide whether or not to install larger crown molding to tops of cabinets or perhaps replace the cabinets altogether. Although I really like my kitchen (especially the raised panel design of the cabinets and corian countertops, I want it to look a little more up-to-date. Also, if I change the stain of cabinets, how would that look with the Oak trim I have throughout the open floor plan?
Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions!!, Kitchens Design

  • Columbus Ohio Mid Century Modern Split - Main Level, This house was built in 1960. We bought it 4 years ago. We love this main level, there are two, six foot sliding doors out the back and one leading out the front to a front porch. The Vaulted ceilings have wood beams and the ceiling material is a wood composite called Tectum. We are trying to sell and aren't getting much interest in a strong market. We just put in the granite and the Amish Oak cabinets are only 5 years old. should we go for an Open Concept? We don't have much money and need ideas!, Living Rooms Design
