  • Updated 1965 Slate Entry, I know some people love slate and would never dream of removing it or covering it over with manmade materials. I tend to agree accept that in this case the slate was very dark and in a small space. The color was not complimentary to anything else we wanted to do in the rest of the house. I have an interior designer friend who advised me regarding the overall look of the house. We chose to do everything light in keeping with a Cape Cod look since this home is located near the water.

I chose to cover it over with a resilient tile that can be grouted. This is the same tile used throughout the house so it gives a look of continuity from the top of the stairs to the basement below. If/when we ever sell this home, the slate is still there and can easily be restored if someone desires to do so. As for me, I really disliked it.

This is still a work in progress (baseboard trim needs to be added, etc.), Other Spaces Design

  • Brand New Old World Entry Hall, This is the entry hall into our home. It was part of a full year remodel. All the steps & banisters were removed and replaced with solid Red Oak. Many of the paintings on the wall are period antiques including the portrait of the three gentlemen. (My REAL great, great, great uncles) Thank you for viewing our remodel and feel free to take a look at all the rooms that we did in this remodel. All comments welcome. Thank you, Other Spaces Design

  • Suggestions Please!, Yellow and brick midentry home exterior, 70's style, split level, in need of updates. Please share your suggestions with me to bring this home up to date with current trends on a limited buget. • Columbus Ohio Mid Century Modern Split Exterior, This is a 1960 split that we bought 4 years ago. We are trying to sell and aren't having luck. Our market is actually "hot". There are a lot of splits but ours is unique. It did have a Carport but we converted it into a 2 car garage as you can see, We did A LOT of landscaping as well. The stucco is original and not painted, it is in good shape. I think the green trim is a drag, but the previous owner put on a green roof, so we feel stuck. We love the front porch/Lanai. But the front door is set back and hidden. the driveway is a bit unusual as well. , Home Exterior Design

  • Bi-level Exterior Needs Updating!, We just bought this Bi-Level and had a giant tree cut down that was covering the bay window. Want to give it a modern updated and neutral look. Any suggestions on door/trim/siding colors? Also what to do with that brick, not very fond of it but if it can muted I would be OK with that. , Home Exterior Design

  • HARVEST ENTRY, Since moving from Florida to Arizona, one thing is for sure: I've enjoyed decorating our entryway for Spring, Fall and Holiday. To see Spring, please view Spring on the Stoop - Crisp, clean and filled with pink & purple flowers. For Fall, it's quite the opposite: remembering our NJ home stoop, I made swept piles in the corners of each step using a bag of wood bark chips from Home Depot - mixed with a few faux leaves PLUS pinecones I collected here in AZ. I used another bag of bark chips around the base of my urns & lanterns at the door -- and since the weather cools off here for Fall, I was able to use real pumpkins too. The branches in the urns add height to frame the doorway -- they are to me a keepsake from Florida -- I found them back in 2010 and still use them seasonally today. For Fall, I hot glue leaves, for winter: leaves are removed and sparkle snowflakes are added. In Spring, I wrap the branches with pink blossoms. This decorated entry makes a perfect spot for a family photo, a couples Christmas card, or even just a friendly seasonal pic to have has a keepsake..., Home Exterior Design
