  • Warm & Spicy Dining, Inspired by the bold colors of spices, we warmed up our victorian dining room, where we entertain often. The light changes throughout the day, changing the ambience from bright & cheerful, to seductively dramatic. I have my eye on a pair of turquoise velvet chairs for the ends of the table, drawing the color from the rug, and the adjoining living room., Dining Rooms Design

  • Slightly industrial entertainment space, We decided to remodel half of our basement and keep other half unfinished for storage. I have teenage boys and a small 3 bedroom ranch so we needed the extra space. We went with a contractor that gave us a choice of drywall or softwall. Softwall is what we needed because we have no furnace and only electric heat so our basement was cold in winter and humid and moist in summer. The softwall system is fiberglass and durable. Panels can be removed for easy access to cement. I have a degree on art and love to decorate but since my main floor is full of glass shelves and fragile decor my boys wanted me to keep it simple and they didn't want me to add too many fragile or feminine items to space. We all love our Boston sports teams so I bought a few pennants to add to room with fooseball table. I love the railing I picked out. It is chrome and very sleek. I decided to paint the stair treads dove gray to match walls because when colors are monotone the space always looks bigger. I did not go with carpet because it is not the best choice for a basement for many reasons. I picked out this vinyl sheet that looks like hardwood floors but so much cheaper and easier to maintain then carpet. Especially with 3 teenage boys. I painted an old square table black and eventually if boys outgrow fooseball table I will put a big card/dining table there. I found many corner industrial looking shelves online and one at a garage sale that was brass color but I spray painted it silver. Pillows a de throw I bought at Kmart and nice ottoman at walmart. I painted a buffet table my mother gave me black, took doors off front to create a tv stand and a place for cable boxes, CDs, Xbox, etc. I love it, the kids love it. I wish we could have done this years ago but it will add value to the home and maybe keep boys home more., Basements Design
