Bright white cabinets w/black hardware and black silestone countertops. Pops of color are found on the red lamp shades and the sesame seed wall color. Stainless steel appliances and brazilian cherry hard wood floors complete the space.

We finally remodeled our kitchen after 17 years! We were fortunate enough to have a retired friend willing to do the work on the remodel. He also built and installed our custom oak cabinets. All of our cabinets were made by his hands. All of the old cabinets, a closet pantry, and a wall between the kitchen and dining room was removed. A support beam was added to support the second story. Custom oak cabinets were built on site and made to fit every inch of available space. A custom tile backsplash was also added. A Silestone solid surface countertop was installed with an undermount sink. We installed new lighting, cabinet hardware and a new faucet. We painted the walls a creamy pale yellow called "Paper Lantern" from Sherwin Williams. The existing 12 x 12 tile floor was repaired using the extra tile saved from the original installation of the floor 9 years ago. We were fortunate enough to use the same tile person. He also installed the new backsplash. We did not add any square feet to our kitchen but it feels so much bigger and open.

It was remodeled in the 1990's with a new cabinets and appliences. I have rebuilt the oven, replaced the fridge and mircowave. Stainless steel hood is on its way and a new dishwasher is coming soon. I have no idea what color if an to paint my cabinet and what color I should use for the countertops! I am thinking black cabinets with grey countertops? The walls are deep blue and the opposing wall is brown that goes all the way up the ceiling.
UPDATE: We have went with a nice grey for a more modern feel. I have replaced all the lighting with brushed nickle fixtures with albaster shades. We have decided to go with the cabinets with some helpful tips from everyone on this board. We were gong to do tealight on them but people said it looked to country kitchen which is NOT us. I am also installing three 4 inch canned lights above each entry way. One from the garage door, one from the backdoor, and one from the living room entrance. We are going to leave the blue around the cabinets but we are going to paint the rest grey.I am going to post the in progress pictures now. Any tips or hints would help! Thanks!
We also picked a light grey from the flooring for the ceiling and opposing wall - we are ditching the brown, to dark. DO WE PAINT THE DOORS AND TRIM TO THE CABINET COLOR OR DO WE GO WHITE? HELP! LOL ALSO what about taking down all the two light fixtures and installing canned lights?? what do you think?

We completely removed everything from the old kitchen down to the drywall and replaced it with solid maple cabinets, oil rubbed bronze knobs and pulls, stainless steel appliances, hardwood floors, new granite countertops, new travertine and glass tile backsplash, and new pendant, task and can lighting.

We couldn't stand the green formica top countertops that came with the home so we decided to customize. We built our own custom concrete countertops. And what a difference they have made in transforming our kitchen.

The number one priority in our recent home remodel was to reconfigure the laundry room and powder room areas. Our contractor reversed the two adjoining spaces to enter into the powder room first, with a pocket door leading into the laundry room. No more stumbling over laundry baskets on your way to the bathroom! The new laundry space includes elevated front load washer and dryer, Silestone Lyra quartz countertop, white subway tile backsplash, and Marmoleum flooring with inlay that is continuous between the two spaces. To further the vintage look of the powder room, we repeated the use of Silestone Lyra, which looks like classic marble, for the countertop. We designed a curved backsplash and added a cross handle faucet to enhance the classic vintage look of the vanity piece. Sconces were repeated on either side of the oval mirror.

Finally a kitchen I can be proud of and one that makes me feel like home. When I'm in this space I imagine myself living in Italy somewhere in the country.

I recently took down the kitchen wallpaper and thought a fresh coat of paint would spruce it up a little bit. Unfortunately, all this did was highlight the fact that the countertops, cabinets and hardware were so dated. I don't have the budget for new cabinets or granite countertops. But then I read you could PAINT your countertops to look like faux granite, I gave it a shot - here is the result! Yes - I am a little thrilled! *** UPDATE... With so many people excited to try this at home - I decided to post more detailed information and some answers to questions on my blog: http://generalsplendour.blogspot.com I am totally new to blogging so bear with me. Thanks!
