  • Small Kitchen Remodel on a Small Budget, We finally remodeled our kitchen after 17 years! We were fortunate enough to have a retired friend willing to do the work on the remodel. He also built and installed our custom oak cabinets. All of our cabinets were made by his hands. All of the old cabinets, a closet pantry, and a wall between the kitchen and dining room was removed. A support beam was added to support the second story. Custom oak cabinets were built on site and made to fit every inch of available space. A custom tile backsplash was also added. A Silestone solid surface countertop was installed with an undermount sink. We installed new lighting, cabinet hardware and a new faucet. We painted the walls a creamy pale yellow called "Paper Lantern" from Sherwin Williams. The existing 12 x 12 tile floor was repaired using the extra tile saved from the original installation of the floor 9 years ago. We were fortunate enough to use the same tile person. He also installed the new backsplash. We did not add any square feet to our kitchen but it feels so much bigger and open. , Kitchens Design

  • I need help! What color for trim AND doors now! Thanks for Cabinet color ideas!, It was remodeled in the 1990's with a new cabinets and appliences. I have rebuilt the oven, replaced the fridge and mircowave. Stainless steel hood is on its way and a new dishwasher is coming soon. I have no idea what color if an to paint my cabinet and what color I should use for the countertops! I am thinking black cabinets with grey countertops? The walls are deep blue and the opposing wall is brown that goes all the way up the ceiling.

UPDATE: We have went with a nice grey for a more modern feel. I have replaced all the lighting with brushed nickle fixtures with albaster shades. We have decided to go with the cabinets with some helpful tips from everyone on this board. We were gong to do tealight on them but people said it looked to country kitchen which is NOT us. I am also installing three 4 inch canned lights above each entry way. One from the garage door, one from the backdoor, and one from the living room entrance. We are going to leave the blue around the cabinets but we are going to paint the rest grey.I am going to post the in progress pictures now. Any tips or hints would help! Thanks!
We also picked a light grey from the flooring for the ceiling and opposing wall - we are ditching the brown, to dark. DO WE PAINT THE DOORS AND TRIM TO THE CABINET COLOR OR DO WE GO WHITE? HELP! LOL ALSO what about taking down all the two light fixtures and installing canned lights?? what do you think?, Kitchens Design

  • Multi purpose childs play home, The owner of this project needed some very special, on of a kind, custom children's multi purpose cabinetry.

The project includes Maple veneer plywood, Italian plastic laminate and Silestone solid surface counter tops. The cut outs one sees in the plywood are of a leaf motif, each one being cut out by hand. There is a solid Maple stair way that leads up to a cantilevered, Maple floored loft area where kids can read. Besides all kinds of storage the unit is capped off with a Maple plywood roof, high lighted by a clam shell cut out., Other Spaces Design

  • Asymmetrical Kitchen Remodel, Before moving into this newly purchased home, the owners had an opportunity to remodel the kitchen. Built in 1990, this kitchen was compartmentalized and outdated. The island was too small and a bottleneck formed between the island and refrigerator. The owners wanted to open up the space to the living and dining areas.

Inspired by Mexican contemporary architecture, the kitchen was transformed. The tile backsplash, dark counters and small island were all removed. The florescent light box was swapped with cool pendants and recessed lighting. A new kitchen sink is now located under a new picture box window allowing views to the street. Overhead cabinets in a bright, fun hue and open wood shelving with accent lighting and decorative tile bring functionality to the space. The cooktop remains in the enlarged, asymmetrical island and now accommodates seating. Some appliances were updated and a new pantry with additional storage was constructed around the refrigerator. Finishing the look is new Brazilian Pecan hardwood flooring.

Now this family has an updated, contemporary kitchen that is open to the living spaces and can freely enjoy hosting friends and family.

  • Combined Laundry Room and Powder Room Renovation, The number one priority in our recent home remodel was to reconfigure the laundry room and powder room areas. Our contractor reversed the two adjoining spaces to enter into the powder room first, with a pocket door leading into the laundry room. No more stumbling over laundry baskets on your way to the bathroom! The new laundry space includes elevated front load washer and dryer, Silestone Lyra quartz countertop, white subway tile backsplash, and Marmoleum flooring with inlay that is continuous between the two spaces. To further the vintage look of the powder room, we repeated the use of Silestone Lyra, which looks like classic marble, for the countertop. We designed a curved backsplash and added a cross handle faucet to enhance the classic vintage look of the vanity piece. Sconces were repeated on either side of the oval mirror., Other Spaces Design
