This is where we spend the most time in our home. This room has a great room concept with a kitchen family room and small kitchen dining nook. It opens up to our backyard and pool area. The house came with the kiva fireplace. The flooring is saltillo so we tiled the kiva fireplace with mexican saltillo tile and talevera tile. My husband built the entertainment center out of drywall which is pretty popular in the southwest. The kitchen has maple cabinets and granite tile countertops.

We loved the layout of our kitchen but it needed updating from the 1980's tile counter tops and colors.

The center of our home features this towering stone wall fronted by a Rumford fireplace. The wall wraps into the library to the right and the front entrance and hallway to the left. The hearth is Colorado Red flagstone custom shaped to hug the surround of the the natural stone the steps are the same. The wood flooring is Australian Cypress. The Tile flooring is Saltillo from Mexico. The walls are plaster from a gypsum found exclusively in Texas and is a troweled smooth finish...no paint. The painting is an original by native American, Sam English of Santa Fe, NM.
We love the Rumford design because it best performs when the wood is placed in a tee-pee fashion against the back firewall. It burns more like a campfire which is fun and mesmerizing.

Went from Saltillo tiles to Neutral Ceramic tiles at a diagonal (Personal preference. Replaced 36" vanity with a more contemporary 24" vanity to free up space. Painted the walls Cumberland Fog (blue grey. Will be accessorizing with satin nickel and I'm thinking a VERY colorful, striped shower curtain to help liven

Patio which is more like a loggia. Great for sitting outside and watching the rain without getting wet. It is a tropical oasis in the middle of the city. The furniture was purchased at Carl's Furniture with custom fabric.

This living/dining area is a blank canvas in need of high style. The house was built in 1972 and currently has a hacienda feel; saltillo tile, dark wood mantel and ceiling beams, sliding glass door overlooking a rustic backyard with a small swimming pool.

Our 1920 house had the original kitchen and an under-used addition, which some call a three season porch, adjacent to it. We began the renovation by replacing the old jalousies with energy efficient windows and door. To help blend the two rooms, our contractor removed as much of the shared wall as possible. The original plan was to take down the entire wall; however, our plan had to be revised when we discovered plumbing inside that wall. Our contractor helped us contain the cost by custom building more kitchen cabinets to match the existing ones. This also gave me lots of additional storage - who doesn't love that! Bead board was installed along the breakfast room wall and at the ends of the cabinets. We had a local artisan make the wrought iron towel bar/pot rack. Recessed lighting was installed in both rooms along with honed "Jerusalem Gold" limestone countertops and "Saltillo" terracotta tiles (set on the diagonal. We visually joined the two spaces by using the same materials and colors throughout. It was a challenge to put a "new" kitchen into an old home. We wanted it to look as if this renovated kitchen was original to the house. Having our contractor custom build more of the old style cabinets helped retain that look. My husband and I have traveled to Tuscany together and were inspired by the earthy colors and rustic textures of that landscape. We kept this in mind when we were making the design choices as we renovated this space. In conclusion, we are pleased with the result.

My kitchen was an untouched 70's kitchen with beige appliances and dark dark cabinets. I wanted an unfitted casual feel that went with the style of the house which featured terra cotta tile floors and beamed ceilings with corbels.
