  • "Optimista" Kitchen Makeover, Very small budget. We did almost all the work ourselves, including design and building the barstool, table/chairs and bench. We painted existing cabinets and added new cabinets and quartz countertops (no granite!! with wine rack for extra space and storage. It's part of an overall total house remodel, so we maintained the exposed, stained concrete floors throughout (very easy to clean. Cheerful, Earthtone colors with accent match the rest of the house. We just wanted it to look less "Kitcheny".

  • Modern Cottage Kitchen- Please Rate., It might not look like a big deal to you but I'm thrilled to have a functioning kitchen! It's just a simple cottage kitchen but we love it. It looks great and works great too. My favorite thing aside from the Quartz counters is my spice rack that slides out from the side of the range. All the spices fit so neatly in the narrow cabinet and they're right there ready to use when I'm cooking... which is now often., Kitchens Design

  • Custom Kitchen, This has been a major work in progress...a total gut and my husband did it all himself! From the carpentry on cabinets built from wonderful salvaged wood to the island to remudding walls installing appliances and more. We did have help with the flooring (used to be linoleum) and the lighting/electrical. This has been a true labor of love...and three years in the making. So thankful to have a kitchen again!, Kitchens Design

  • White and Yellow Kitchen w/ Desk, Clean and Modern

Paint: Walls are Butter from Restoration Hardware; Cabinets are semi-gloss White by Benjamin Moore; Removed popcorn ceiling (messy!); Removed pot rack over the island; Removed all chair rails (ceiling feels so much taller now!).

Hardware: The knobs and pulls and hinges are polished nickel.

Flooring: We replace all the vinyl flooring with bamboo.

Appliance: New stainless steel appliances are Kenmore (the old ones were black and 25 yrs old!) and relocated fridge to a nook in the wall (which you can't see it in these photos) and moved the stove and microwave/hood into it's place to let more light from the breakfast nook into the rest of the kitchen.

Countertops: Silestone from Home Depot and butcher block on the island.

Backsplash: Cheap white subway tiles over counters. I used cork squares to create a custom corkboard in the desk area.

Furniture: Table and chairs are old from crate and barrel floor sample (about 5 yrs ago). They were meant to be outside furniture, but look good inside. The pendant is from West Elm and we cut the cord to hard-wire it., Kitchens Design

  • From thought to finish, Using the basic space, we improved and made it ours. The ceiling recess was a light fixture. We used quartz counters and metal for backsplash. The laminate floors also run into the adjoining dining area., Kitchens Design

  • Kitchen Update - Quartz Counters/Maple Cabinets, In February 2010 we experienced a dishwasher leak that ruined about half of the sub-floor in our kitchen and all of the base cabinets. The insurance company was great and quickly brought in a water restoration company to begin drying out the kitchen.

Fortunately we'd already had some thoughts about a future kitchen update but this caused us to rapidly move our timeline ahead by about a year. To minimize the amount of time we were without the use of the kitchen, we chose not to make any major remodeling changes to the space.

Since the kitchen is open to the adjacent family room, our update also included painting both spaces and installing new carpet in the family room.

We contracted all of the work ourselves. The cabinets are natural maple from the Jamestown series at Diamond Cabinets. The countertops are from the LG Viatera Quartz series in Odessa. The floor tile is 16"x16" and from the Mesa Stone series by Armstrong in beige. We found the pendant lights over the breakfast bar at Lowe's - they screwed right into our existing canned light fixtures, saving the cost of an electrician to change out the fixtures.

We really love the space, especially the new eating/breakfast bar., Kitchens Design

  • Contemporary or Traditional? I got my way! (for once) , We had a 8 year old builder's grade master bath that my wife simply hated. We decided to redesign the bath to our tastes and we think it looks great! I've got to admit, the room design suits my contemporary tastes much more than my wife's traditional preferences. Believe it or not, the heated marble floors are my favorite thing about the entire bath., Bathrooms Design

  • Kitchen From the 20th Century to the 21st Century, 80's kitchen with low ceiling, old cabinets, dated tile flooring and green laminate counters was blah. We gutted the entire kitchen, took the ceiling to the height of the other rooms, laid wood flooring in a two tone effect, had custom cabinets made, quartz counters, pot filler, brushed stainless appliances, new lighting, and a glass backsplash that looks like water flowing down each tile. It is the dream kitchen I have always wanted. Thanks to my husband for his vision and hard work., Kitchens Design
