this was a tragic back yard. the hill, ending almost at the edge of the house didn't provide much space to do anything. it is shady a good part of the day so we couldn't even grow grass. It would get muddy and our picnic table was sinking into the ground. Trying to figure out what to do with that hill was awful. So we let nature guide us. Added a retaining wall, some pavers in a checker-board pattern, some lovely potted plants and bird houses and feeders among the "wild" hill makes all those weeds look planned! Plenty of comfy seating and umbrellas and some outdoor speakers and a sonos player make this our favorite "room" in the summer.

Welcome to our little retreat! Living in the Northwest we grew tired of our open air wood deck that we really only used a few weeks a year. After years of looking at various awning options to cover the old deck we decided no amount of upgrade to the old deck would achieve our patio dreams. It took a couple of years of sweat and tears to complete to our satisfaction but we've created an outdoor living room and kitchen space we enjoy year round.

We started out with the idea of building a small deck to put the grill. It turned into a kitchen, dining room, living room and bedroom...all on one deck! The tile steps were quite simple and made such a beautiful difference.

Hubby & I spent 18 months creating an outdoor space (18' x 18' complete with a cedar pavilion, flagstone patio, outdoor kitchen, and wood & gas burning fireplace. It's been a labor of love that has given us many happy moments with family & friends. Welcome to our home:

Here is my new yard. I've included a picture of the yard when I moved in too. I took out the flagstone built and stained the deck stained the fence and added some plants. I tried to grow grass 3 times...it's so shady I ended up putting in artificial grass myself. Let me know what you think and how I can improve. Thanks.
Shortly after this my neighbor made me take down the tree in the corner of my yard. I was heartbroken and didn't even want to go into the back yard, it looked so bare. So to make use of the space we framed out the garden as a elevated deck and added the cabana and lounge bed. We also extended the main deck. Let me know what you think.

My husband and I just finished this triple level deck in time for our 4th. of July party. Each level has it's own unique design and purpose. The upper level is used for dining. The main level has a firepit outdoor kitchen and gazebo used for entertaining and relaxing. The ground level is a space for my Grandson Jacob and I to swim. When I'm in that little 8" pool and the music is playing and my eyes are closed I feel like I'm in the tropics. Great Fun in a small space on a budget!

A steep, unusable side yard patio is transformed into a relaxing courtyard with a built in spa and workout area. The concrete walls are finished in Eldorado stone and custom moon gates add an Asian/Modern feel.
