please help!! need paint ideas for staircase, foyer, hallway

About This Space

this area begins at foyer/entranceway up staircase, and through a large hallway. it is currently painted yellow on the lower half of what seems like a chair-rail, then is violet on the upper half, up staircase, and through hall. i typically paint my rooms with neutrals like white, antique, creams, beigh's (boring, i know--but i'm not into yellow & purple. the trim all around this space is cherry. (Banister, baseboards etc. this, i do not want to paint. the problem for me is choosing 2 colors, one for each half of the chair-rail, which will compliment each other without being too boring, but not over the top either.

The cherry wood trim is very pretty, and since your into the nuance colors (nuetrals i'd paint the bottom half under the cherry wood trim a very very light blue color that you like, then i would paint the wall above the cherry wood trim a beige color that you'd like, these colors would bring out the wood, yet make the space seem larger and more open and it still would make a nice bold statement without using to dark or deep of colors. If you decide to go with my idea they have nice paint at lowe's and the colors that may look good would be 5001-3C Blue Arrow and 3007-10C Cincinnatian Hotel Hannaford. Enjoy!

how lucky you are to have such a cool house. lowes has a paint section i think its from valspar that has historic color combinations on sample cards. you might find a combo that you like and still keep with the historic look of your neat house. if that trim was mine i wouldn't paint it either. it's got craftsmanship you just can't buy today. good luck and please post more pics of other parts of your house and the afters. good luck.

how about choosing 3?? i used the red, black, and white theme in my room and its nice! how about taking the part above the chair-rail and painting it black? the bottom part white and the chair rail and baseboards red? then try the bannister black. or white. this might work..hope it helps!!
of course, u might wanna play w/ the colors. browns and blues are nice with hot pink. :D or u could do a darker red and black on the walls and have everything else white.
