Hello again...ran out of space on previous comment. The tiles were then measured out in placement to drill appropriate holes through pieces the chain had to pass through since they are overlapped and staggered at three different heights. This was probably the most difficult task of the entire room as I had to put up and take down so many times to get the alignment right. It took 24 working hours to do the tiles from cutting to hanging. The illusion of crown molding was done by first painting a bright white (3 coats around all areas I wanted this illusion about 3 inches wide from all corners. I then used 2 1/2 thick tape to cover the new white paint and continued to paint the brown. The paint was from home depot...I believe it is called "fresh air". This is their no VOC line of paint. Make sure to press the tape on with alot of force to keep paint from bleeding and giving a clean line....I still had to go back and touch up areas by hand to give a clean line. Thanks everyone!!

Hello everyone and thank you for all the nice complements. I wanted to address some of the most common questions that I received here to help those wanting to replicate certain features of the room. First the ceiling tiles. First, there are 3 total designs and 6 total pieces (2 of each design.....I first cut the proper sized squares, then hand drew the 3 designs onto the plywood using a drinking class and quarter to make the round corners....then I used a bandsaw to cut the designs by drilling starting holes on all the inward corners....then smoothed these out with a dremel tool and finished in off by hand sanding. I then used these three pieces as templates for the second set of same shapes and repeated the process. They were then painted white to give a primer coat of paint and then finished on each side with appropriate color, leaving the white exposed along the edges for effect. I drilled pilot holes into the studs in the ceiling and hung from chains. Hope this helps :

I hav e the same light fixture in one of my modern living rooms. Who cares if you used a room on BHG to do your son's room. That is why they post the pictures and tell us how they did it so we can use that for our own inspiration. Besides, I think yours looks WAY better then the one on BHG! You did an awesome job!!!! How did you cut the ceiling pieces out shaped so smoothly, did you have a template? 5 stars from me!
