This area is finished for a while. I toyed with the idea of all white and cream furnishings, and whole new style. Since I have two grandkids, and one possible in the works, I've decided that chocolate brown feels more forgiving and less stressful to live with. I think this is it for a while aside from a couple of art prints that I'm waiting for to arrive in the mail.

This is a brand new house, we just moved in and we bought new furniture and a new flat screen TV. Now the problem is I have no idea what to do to the walls, and how to decorate to get the Texas/Ranch style, with a modern/contemporary feeling. I want our living room to be warm and inviting. This is a single story house, so we are in this one space ALL the time! Also, as you can see our entertainment center looks like it came straight out of a bachelor pad.
Any ideas for paint colors or accent walls?

This is my husband and mine's very first place together! It's a rental apartment, but I've tried to make it feel like a "home". I've been lucky enough to work at beautiful shops as a designer & merchandiser over the last 10 yrs, & have slowly collected accessories. As for the furniture, some are wedding gifts, or handed down in the family. My style isn't really "one" design style ~ I love country french, classic yet casual designs, and toile! I love to mix woods, especially black. I can't wait to have a house one day so I can decorate many rooms!! It is my passion.

Last winters project was to repair and paint The entrance foyer parlor and stairway. Mary Anne chose all the colors made the curtains gave me the paint and uhpolstery fabric and said "get to it monkey boy."

Dark chocolate wall which ties the Dining area and Living Rm together. The Fireplace has simple Birch Wood squares. The modern sofa is a bold statement and is accented w/ brown leather chairs & accent chair. Patio doors in the Dining Room have floor to ceiling fabric panels that slide on a rail system.

This is the room that would typically be called the formal living room. We are casual and have young children. I think the space is well suited to our lifestyle. It is a perfect space for conversation or to curl up and read a book. After dinner parties we generally circulate into the space for after dinner drinks and dessert. I still need to change out the previous drapery. It is not my style. It does match to some degree so it has been a little farther down on my to do list. I'll get them done, hopefully this year. This is our new place and it is begging for some personalization - we need advise. The trim is real oak and the floors are bamboo. I don't plan to change the floors at all. The fireplace is granite as is the foyer. The oak is natural and I was wondering if we should paint it, perhaps put in a different banister and then have the living area painted in taupe with white trim - along with a really nice staircase banister. The top banister is bordering a loft area - what should we put up there? What kind of furniture would you use to furnish this space? Specifics - please. The leather couch, chair, ottoman and table were just purchased but we have another family room downstairs that we could use it in - what type of furniture and how do you break up this space? We need advise! Pictures would be great!
