  • Making My Apartment My Own, When I moved in it was a typical apartment and I had typical 20 year old college furniture. White walls and Ikea everywhere. I spent a month or so designing the entire space on a 3D program, making changes, getting inspiration everywhere I could find some. Many of my furniture I found on Craigslist for a bargain and it was either painted or otherwise refurbished to fit my space.

When I moved in the space where my book case exists was just an empty recess in the wall. Obviously I had to build a bookshelf in there.

I installed the picture frame molding myself and swapped all of the light fixtures and wall fixtures.

The light above the dining table was a CL find. I painted it black, extended the chain, omitted the shades and crystals.

The china cabinet was a $100 CL find. Built by the original owner's grandfather. I painted it white with a grey back on the interior to offset white china.

The fireplace was a $50 CL find I painted it white, added a wood medallion, and built an enclosure on the back so the fireplace would not be open to the wall making it a little more realistic.

The mirror above the couch is a beautiful mercury glass mirror from around 1900. My dad found it in an estate he bought. He painted it white and gave it to me as a gift.

Couch, rug, dining set, side tables, and accent chair are new., Living Rooms Design

  • The Beauty in the Details!, I, like many HGTV fans, love the details involved in arranging our homes. Besides, we need to "change it up" from time to time. I just did this little arrangement to go on the leather footstool which sits in the middle of the conversation area. This was not expensive...I did not order it up....I made it up myself from things I have collected. The two white orchids are from Trader Joe. But just the two plants alone looked rather meek, so I added four decorative pine cone looking pieces, plus some moss. I also threw in a terra cotta horse head and sat the terra cotta dolls around the base of the silver container. This whole thing sits on a large rustic silver tray in the middle of the leather footstool. It is not so tall or bulky that the people seated in the four chairs can not see one another for a conversation. Anyway, I had fun doing it! Carole, Living Rooms Design

  • Winter Shabby White slipcovered cottage chic, Updated one of my living rooms. The chill is in the air and I no longer wanted to see big roses. It's shabby yet chic with lots of black and white. I took away all the garden items that were pink. Repainted a cupboard from pink to white and am enjoying it's new look for a cooler season. **I just went back in to preview these photos are dark will update with better photos. thanks for looking.I love pretty things and unique things no matter where I find it curb, gar. sale, shop ect...it may sometimes get to be too much eye candy but it makes me smile and i like that. The toile looks busier in the pic than it looks in person...funny?..I think the real point is to get ideas and be inspired as i enjoy getting ideas from all of you. , Living Rooms Design

  • Foyer and Wine Bar, This is the entry to my home. We added the glass door last fall to let the sunlight flood the space. The wine bar is just off of the dining room and works perfectly when entertaining. I set up a decorative stand to put ice and wine in and everyone serves themselves!, Living Rooms Design
