i agree, the room needs to be broken up.. i'd move the couch away from the window and have it face the tv... maybe an area rug in front of the couch, and another by the hutch and table to break up the long swath of gray carpet... good luck!

I like the windows better without the grids. I think it's a personal preference. The grids make things look a bit more old fashioned, whereas without them, things look more contemporary. Ideally, you wouldn't have to put the TV in front of the windows, but since you do, I would cover the windows with floor to ceiling and wall to wall blackout lined drapes to eliminate any glare and give a nice colored backdrop for the TV. To eliminate the bowling alley effect with such a long, skinny room, you need to break up the length by placing the sofa floating to face the TV. 2 chairs could then go in front of the windows facing the fireplace w/an end table and lamp between them. This would get them out from in front of the fireplace. The game table would look neat behind the sofa acting as sort of a sofa table. Those playing at it could easily see the TV. You could even use it as a laptop desk. Since the carpet is gray, I'd stick with a neutral color on the walls...light gray or taupe.
