I love the colors in the room. Just put some modern touches (or victorian touches to update the space. Try looking for an area rug at a garage sale or second hand store. I would put the TV in the corner by the door! Also try to make a couple of areas so the room doesn't look so long. And I noticed in the last picture the great space high up by the register. I would put a collage of pictures there to visually bring your eyes up. That is a great space to hang some pictures (not too many.

You must get rid of the plastic (enjoy the furniture. Move the TV to the corner where the floral chair currently sits. Move the couch so the back is toward the dining room table. Move both chairs where the couch is currently. Unless you really need table lamps, get rid of them. If your budget allows, buy a standing lamp and place in the other corner. Also a nice rug in front of the couch would warm the room.

You could make a big difference in this room with neutral slip covers. The stretchy ones will even cover the recliner, which looks a bit worse-for-the-wear. An area rug would really help, too, but it must be big enough for all the furniture to at least touch [probably 8x10]. Try spray painting all the gold frames black, silver, or cream and grouping them all together, tighter and lower than they currently are.

It's obvious this room is for watching tv. The only suggestion I would make would be to reverse the two chairs. I'm sure there will be a lot of resistance from whomever sits in the recliner. But the curtains are flowered and I would rather see a plain chair in front of it. I'd bring it more forward and place the plant behind it-on a plant stand. then I'd move the other chair more forward to almost form an"L" to the couch.This way it would look more like a conversational room and not just a tv room. I'd also replace the doily on the coffee table with one or 2 more modern placemats. Too bad you couldn't find an inexpensive rug to put in front of the couch.

What if you put the tv on the wall with the door then the couch across the room from were the solid chair is then the two chairs on the wall were the tv was?
