It's free and easy.
We bought an old well abused group home last year and have slowly been working our way around the first floor fixing it up on our own. The old kitchen literally had 24" of counter space. By knocking out the wall between the kitchen and dining area, replacing the window with one above counter height, moving the gas and water lines, knocking out a back closet and moving the radiator we were able to create a much more functional space. When we encountered old Asbestos tiles under the ceramic we decided not to go all the way down to the old wood, but instead cover with red/white checker board tile. I'm in love.
