Kitchens

  • Floor to Ceiling Transformation, Originally, a G-shaped kitchen that basically divided my kitchen in half & only used 1/2 the space. I have totally gutted it, designed a new layout that would utilize the entire space. Created a lot more storage, along with more convenient functions, like pull out drawers, single basin sink & taller faucet. New floor, more lighting that I installed myself. I had a very small budget but I feel I got a "Bang For Your Bucks". And even though I've designed every inch of it and had a pretty good idea of how everything would look, the finished project actually turned out much more beautiful than I ever imagined. This has been a very rewarding experience.

  • Universal Design Kitchen with a Modern Flair!, The whole concept was to have a modern but wheelchair accessible universal design kitchen. My husband uses a wheelchair but we wanted to design a space that invisibly incorporated features that would make the space more functional for him while maintaining the overall design we both envisioned. , Kitchens Design

  • Northwest Contemporary Kitchen Remodel, We purchased our outdated 1964 home 10 years ago and have been remodeling it slowly. We recently finished the kitchen/laundry addition. One of the main drawbacks of our home was the fact that there was no laundry room. The washer and dryer were previously located in a small closet off of the main hallway.

After much thought, we decided to include the washer/dryer in the new kitchen area. We'd seen this many times in European homes and decided it would be a good fit for us as well. So far, I've really enjoyed it. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen and it has been really handy! Also the high counter tops over the washer/dryer makes a great buffet area, easily accessible to the patio area (coming soon...)

By far, the most difficult item for me to pick out was the counter tops. I really love the look of cement but was nervous to use it because it's not as durable. After months of looking at different materials we finally decided on quartz counter tops by Caesarstone in Raven. Hard to tell in the photos, but it's a very soft black/deep gray. We went with stained concrete for my table though and I absolutely LOVE it! In fact, it's my favorite part of the kitchen!

I've spent countless hours both watching HGTV and browsing here on the website getting ideas for the remodel. RATE MY SPACE was the source of much inspiration and I've been looking forward to finally adding my own photos to it :)

Our goal was to create a warm, cozy kitchen area that all four of us could enjoy. Used warm colors to help counter the LONG, gray Oregon days. We're happy with the results!

Thanks for taking a look :)

  • The look for a lot less-before & after, transitional kitchen style. i spent a lot of time pricing and revising plan to achieve a custom kitchen look without the price tag. because i love to cook but hate to clean, function was just as important as aesthetics. behind pocket door (left of ovens) is my pantry with custom looking cabinets and wood countertops (home depot unfinished cabinets w/ trim molding added and salvaged wood countertops) w/ built-in microwave and prep sink. • Dark Contemporary Rock Wall, I like to think that our kitchen remodel is one that stands out (in a good way). We wanted to create a space that was earthy, sophisticate and functional. We decided after lots of back and forth not to put up wall cabinets and instead have all pull out drawers and the rock wall. We are so happy with all of our final choices. , Kitchens Design

  • Painted and Glazed Cabinets .. How to Step by Step, If you love painted cabinets with that "Old World" feel see how I achieved the look in my kitchen. I can't however take all of the credit for this remodel. Without my sister-in-law I could not have achieved all of this in 1 week. Thank You could never convey how grateful I am for her help and how much fun I had with her that week. Take a look I have tried to break it down day by day I hope this will inspire you to try this on your own. If you don't have a sister-in-law I rent mine., Kitchens Design

  • HGTV RMS Inspiration Room - my new kitchen photos, My kitchen is one of the inspiration rooms on episode #208 of the Rate My Space Show. Thank you Angelo, Jillian and HGTV for choosing my kitchen as an inspiration room. It was quite an honor and a lot of fun being on the show. I renovated my kitchen a couple of years ago. We went from an outdated 1980's kitchen to this. The original kitchen had pickled oak cabinets with white formica countertops. I wish I had taken a "before" picture to show you. The change is remarkable., Kitchens Design

  • Pinnacle of Design BEFORE PHOTOS ADDED!, You have to really see the "before" to truly appreciate our kitchen now. It was UGLY! Now we have stacked cabinetry that draws the eye to the peak of the cathedral ceilings with soft cream-colored raised-panel doors and a classic beaded inset frame featuring magnificent molding flutes columns pilasters keys and corbels. This is our dream kitchen and we researched for over a year to find the "right fit" of a contractor and designer to make our vision a reality. They nailed it!, Kitchens Design

  • Kitchen...finally finished!, This is a re-post of my kitchen with all the crown molding done. My very talented husband installed all of it!
We were the GCs on our new home, built about 18 months ago. We did all the interior framing, the electrical, and all the finish work. It was crazy but so worth it!
Incidentally, I have tried deleting some of these photos since there are SOOO many but the system says they've been deleted and they're still there! Sorry, guys, not intentional. :-/, Kitchens Design

  • Something's Gotta Give Inspired Kitchen, We built what was supposed to be our "dream house" in 2006-07, but I was designing the kitchen in my mind for years before that. I won't go into the gory details, but suffice to say we had a LOT of problems, many still outstanding, and it's likely the house may never be worth what we ended up paying for it, thanks to a crooked/incompetent contractor and other woes.

On the bright side, though it's not perfect, it's still pretty comfy, especially if you don't look too closely, and it's a lot nicer than any house I ever thought I'd live in, even in my wildest imagination. It wasn't that long ago that I was making Thanksgiving dinner for 12 in a tiny apartment with a 20-year-old coil top stove and 3 sq. inches of counter space, so I do know how very, very lucky I am.

I did all the design, from basic floor plan to decorating, myself, so blame me if you hate it. And, no, not everything is exactly as I'd like it, but the money tree didn't take root, so I work with what I have, including a lot of flat pack furniture. I was inspired by, among other things, the Hampton's beach house in the movie Something's Gotta Give, even though we're nowhere near the water, unfortunately. I guess I'd call my overall "look" cottage beach house via Pottery Barn.

To answer the most frequently asked question ... I'm an avid cook and baker and often feed a crowd so, yes, I really do use all those ovens. There are five, in case you're counting: two electric, one gas, a convection/steam oven and an Advantium.

Thanks to all who have taken the time to share comments, and a special thank you for all those folks who shared their own kitchen pictures, many of which inspired me. I am just trying to return the favor.
