  • Something's Gotta Give Inspired Kitchen, We built what was supposed to be our "dream house" in 2006-07, but I was designing the kitchen in my mind for years before that. I won't go into the gory details, but suffice to say we had a LOT of problems, many still outstanding, and it's likely the house may never be worth what we ended up paying for it, thanks to a crooked/incompetent contractor and other woes.

On the bright side, though it's not perfect, it's still pretty comfy, especially if you don't look too closely, and it's a lot nicer than any house I ever thought I'd live in, even in my wildest imagination. It wasn't that long ago that I was making Thanksgiving dinner for 12 in a tiny apartment with a 20-year-old coil top stove and 3 sq. inches of counter space, so I do know how very, very lucky I am.

I did all the design, from basic floor plan to decorating, myself, so blame me if you hate it. And, no, not everything is exactly as I'd like it, but the money tree didn't take root, so I work with what I have, including a lot of flat pack furniture. I was inspired by, among other things, the Hampton's beach house in the movie Something's Gotta Give, even though we're nowhere near the water, unfortunately. I guess I'd call my overall "look" cottage beach house via Pottery Barn.

To answer the most frequently asked question ... I'm an avid cook and baker and often feed a crowd so, yes, I really do use all those ovens. There are five, in case you're counting: two electric, one gas, a convection/steam oven and an Advantium.

Thanks to all who have taken the time to share comments, and a special thank you for all those folks who shared their own kitchen pictures, many of which inspired me. I am just trying to return the favor.

  • Coastal Inspired Kitchen, We wanted something crisp, fresh and bright to greet us in the morning, so we used lemons as our jumping off point. White cabinets with updated hardware and glass tile keep it modern while the butcher block counters keep it earthy. Our pendant lights are inspired by vintage, coastal industrial lights and the striped curtain reminds us of a cabana., Kitchens Design

  • Kitchen with French Country Flair , We currently have this home on the market. It is located in Missouri in the Branson School District. For more information and to look at a virtual tour, the MLS number is 341835. Would make a great permanent residence or vacaton home.
I wanted a kitchen that was functional and beautiful. I chose to use three finishes on the cabinets. I love the way they all work together. I also wanted to keep the space cozy so I added beams awesome lighting and granite with a lot of brown tones. I also chose to use pine flooring (rough sawn side up). This gives the appearance of a reclaimed antique floor. The dining room is adjacent to the kitchen and beyond that is the hearth room so all three areas are open to each other., Kitchens Design

  • Aletta's Kitchen... The Other Side of the Story, After viewing my Painted and Glazed Cabinets many have asked to see the eating space in my kitchen so here it is. I am not finished with this side of the room yet. Looking for fabric for new window treatments also for new prints over the buffet. You know how it is always looking for something new to decorate with. I do have a formal dining room but it is set up as an office. I don't know if I have ever held a formal dinner so this works fine for my family and friends., Kitchens Design

Lots of love and sweat equity in this project. Be sure to check out the before pictures. For the bar we wanted to feature the natural rough edge of the granite which contrasts from the straight finished edges on the countertops., Kitchens Design

  • Modern Cottage Kitchen- Please Rate., It might not look like a big deal to you but I'm thrilled to have a functioning kitchen! It's just a simple cottage kitchen but we love it. It looks great and works great too. My favorite thing aside from the Quartz counters is my spice rack that slides out from the side of the range. All the spices fit so neatly in the narrow cabinet and they're right there ready to use when I'm cooking... which is now often., Kitchens Design

  • Modern Kitchen, Here's an updated version of my kitchen. I went ahead and added the sconces on the pendants... I found them for 10 bucks a piece! My kitchen itself is small however it's completely open to the living room/dining room so it makes it feel a lot larger and brighter. Plus it's also great for entertaining! Because the living room/dining room are so light and bright the darkness of the kitchen contrasts very nicely., Kitchens Design
