  • Ranch Style: Kitchen, We recently gutted our 1971 galley style kitchen to the studs. We removed the wall separating the kitchen and living room. We wanted an open and inviting space to entertain. We replaced the builder cabinets with new maple cabinets. Added a bar with storage and seating for more function. Desk area for the computer and bill paying. We had a tight budget to work with so we splurged on the floors and went with granite tiles for the counter tops. We love the way it turned out. We did all the work but the electrical. What a great bonding experience! LOL., Kitchens Design

  • Simply Sophisticated Kitchen, A traditionally styled kitchen done in a contemporary color palate. The perfect blend in a small but stimulating space that has yet to be accessorized.
We are quite pleased with the result, considering the size of the space we had to work with. This was obviously a complete gut job that took close to two months time, from initial planning to completion. We decided on java colored maple cabinetry and a Wayne's cotting backsplash painted in a buttery cream. We placed a piece of furniture under the window, mainly due to the sill being lower than standard counter height, that ultimately became the centerpiece and inspiration for the space.
The shaded light fixtures provided the perfect touch of modern sophistication, while the tin backsplash, glass, and roman shade helped us achieve that elusive balance between modern and traditional. , Kitchens Design

  • Something's Gotta Give Inspired Kitchen, We built what was supposed to be our "dream house" in 2006-07, but I was designing the kitchen in my mind for years before that. I won't go into the gory details, but suffice to say we had a LOT of problems, many still outstanding, and it's likely the house may never be worth what we ended up paying for it, thanks to a crooked/incompetent contractor and other woes.

On the bright side, though it's not perfect, it's still pretty comfy, especially if you don't look too closely, and it's a lot nicer than any house I ever thought I'd live in, even in my wildest imagination. It wasn't that long ago that I was making Thanksgiving dinner for 12 in a tiny apartment with a 20-year-old coil top stove and 3 sq. inches of counter space, so I do know how very, very lucky I am.

I did all the design, from basic floor plan to decorating, myself, so blame me if you hate it. And, no, not everything is exactly as I'd like it, but the money tree didn't take root, so I work with what I have, including a lot of flat pack furniture. I was inspired by, among other things, the Hampton's beach house in the movie Something's Gotta Give, even though we're nowhere near the water, unfortunately. I guess I'd call my overall "look" cottage beach house via Pottery Barn.

To answer the most frequently asked question ... I'm an avid cook and baker and often feed a crowd so, yes, I really do use all those ovens. There are five, in case you're counting: two electric, one gas, a convection/steam oven and an Advantium.

Thanks to all who have taken the time to share comments, and a special thank you for all those folks who shared their own kitchen pictures, many of which inspired me. I am just trying to return the favor.

All the aggravations, bump heads, stress and hard work paid off at the end, and the best thing is that I'm still married!!! LOL. It takes my breath away every time I look at it, amazingly beyond expectations!!!! I'm in love with my new kitchen!! Small in size but huge in heart. Lot's of love and new memories to create. I'm so glad it's finally completed and we can now enjoy the new heart of our home. <3 Thank you all for your comments and your ratings. xo's
