Thank you as I am know what you are talking about as I used to do decorative painting. I woke up this morning thinking about it and am ready to get started. Hopefully within the next couple of weeks when we go up to our lake home and have the time to complete it.

debbie3...I actually used a craft paint called Burnt Umber and mixed a little bit of black in it to make it not so warm.

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. I am looking forward to trying it out but think I will start in my bathroom first and move onto the kitchen. I appreciate your informaton on the way you did it and look forward to getting rid of those oak cabinets soon. If I get stuck I will let you know and post pictures for you when I finish.

debbie3...Thanks for visiting. As for my cabinets, I didn't sand, I just primed and then put two coats of Valspar antique white on. Then I took some brown paint, put it on a paper towell, then watered it down. I applied it to the detailed part of cabinets. And that's it. Had it done in one day. Very simple. I didn't glaze them or put anything else on. We are always in the kitchen and they have worn very well. Easy to wipe clean. Oh, I used a satin finish instead of enamel or semi gloss. It hides imperfections. I did redo my handles by filling existing holes and making new ones in lower corners on all of the doors. I am COMPLETELY satisified with them. Wouldn't change a thing. Hope I have been helpful enough. Good luck and please let me see when you have it finished. ;}

Hi! I want to say I think your home is lovely and you have done a wonderful job pulling it together. I would like to ask you about your kitchen cabinets. Did you paint them and distress them? I have the same styled cabinets at my lake home which is decorated in the cottage style and need to redo them. They are presently the basic oak cabinets and I really don't care for them at all and need to give them a face lift. Looking forward to hearing from you.
