Here are a few photos of my "design on a dime" kitchen makeover. It's a work in progress. I hated my builder-grade, orange oak cabinets from the 1990s, so I painted over them, and added some Ikea handles. I plan to change the backsplash to something more modern soon, and tweak things here and there. It would be nice to have some under-cabinet lighting. This entire "reno" cost a few hundred dollars. It's definitely worth it if you want to give your oak kitchen an easy update.

I know that everyone is painting their kitchen cabinets white, and that the film "Something's Gotta Give" was an inspiration for many. I can't afford a really high-end kitchen, but I wanted to illustrate how a simple paint job can really transform a dated kitchen, especially one with orange-oak cabinets. By the way, since painting over my kitchen cabinets I've discovered a really great paint called Annie Sloan chalk paint, which makes it really easy to paint over dated wood cabinets because you don't have to prime or sand. I'm not selling this paint, I just wanted to put that bit of information out there for people who are looking for a quick fix. Hope my experience helps people.
