Your so right, we do have the same taste! I found another kitchen to answer your question... search LaylaPalmer. I would paint your island Benjamin Moore Black. (comes already mixed In Layla's kitchen, the same colors are used, just in different places... but I think its the look your going for. I would pick a warm darker beige/tan/ or cream for the walls. Cutting edge stencil's damask stencils to match your valance as the backdrop behind the cabnets in black would be AWESOME! I will be stenciling my living room within the week. OMG! What a wonderful kitchen! You did a great job with your colors. It's so much brighter. Like mine, you need a backsplash. I was thinking stone tiles would look awesome between my cabinets & counter. I watch HGTV's Property Brothers. I get the best ideas from their workovers.
