We renovated the kitchen in our 1960's traditional ranch style home into a more sophisticated, modern design. We splurged on some things like the applicances and counter tops but were able to save money elsewhere. I did the design myself so we didn't have to pay a designer or an architect. The sconces by the range were purchased on Ebay, as were the all refrigerator and freezer. I found the hood on Craigslist and all the door hardware is from Ikea. The white subway tile runs about $2 - $3 a foot at Home Depot, doesn't get any cheaper than that!
