We knocked down the narrow wall, and made what used to be a 2-level breakfast bar into a one level larger countertop peninsula. We lost storage by removing upper cabinets there, but then gained even more by extending the cabinetry into the dining room space. Adding a skylight and an extra wide patio sliding door both helped add much needed light to the area. Concrete countertop with glass tile backsplash complete the look. Scraped off all the icky popcorn ceiling, installed recessed lights, and painted.
