I absolutely love what you have done to your kitchen! My boyfriend and I are in the process of updating our kitchen and are having a hard time deciding on what to do with a few things, that way we don't end up spending too much. The kitchen looks like it is from the 70's and has a brick (I think fake brick backsplash that we don't want to necessarily knock out. That being said, I noticed in the before picture of your kitchen you have brick and in the after the brick looks to still be there, however, it looks gorgeous and as if it were painted or something. So, I was hoping you could help me out and tell me what you did to make your brick look like that??

Hi! Thanks for your comments. Many have asked about the cabinets, so I updated the first page to include some "general" instructions -- we hired a professional, but it was a very affordable solution compared to replacing all the cabinetry. The artist/painter did an incredible job. Good luck to you all.

A great job and inspiration. Your kitchen size and layout is very similar to mine. I'd love an island. Can you tell me the distance from your sink-side cabinets to the fridge? And also, the dimensions of the island.
