It may look decent but once we moved in it didn't take long for us to HATE our kitchen! The slate floors are un-even and difficult to stand on for long periods of time and I cook A LOT. The cabinets are IKEA and not real wood, also too modern for our taste. There are parts of cabnitry missing also. The mint color on the walls is horrible, our oven barely works, the light fixtures don't match and the hideous towel rack above the rusted sink needs replacing. We thought we could do a kitchen "face lift" but now realize we want to gut the entire space and remodel, it needs to be done, but the cost is going to put off the project for several years if not longer, leaving us with this awful kitchen :( Did i mention we love entertaining and have NO counter space because of the akward arrangement?! I HATE MY KITCHEN!

I'm sorry if it bothers you that I posted my kitchen. I don't want to dump $2000 into it when eventually we will be remodeling. Unfortunately that is far in the future. The site is called rate my space, not looking for commiseration, just the opinion of others that infant my kitchen sucks and advice on maybe what i can do for less expensive than your $2000 fix. We are painting. I understand I put myself out that for others to comment, and most have agreed its not a well planned kitchen. This is know, but Mick50, your comments were quite rude. I'm not offended but suggesstions, infant I want them, but you could have done so without the rudeness behind them

Sooo...why did you post your kitchen? Do you want advice or just commiseration? Your main complaints could be fixed for under $2000. Paint over the mint green with sage, off-white, or taupe. [$50.] Buy a combination oven/stove and put it where your barely working oven is currently. [$900] Buy a piece of wood from IKEA cabinets to close the hole. [$10.] Replace the countertops with Formica or IKEA counters [$700]. Remove the horrid towel racks and put two matching wood shelves in their place [$50]. Buy some Memory Foam kitchen floor mats to sooth your feet [$40]. Replace the light fixtures. [$200.] These simple fixes will make your unworkable kitchen functional for the next few years. Or just live with it and, unless Candice Olsen is parked in your driveway, start planning and saving for your dream kitchen. Get kitchen idea books, save photos, talk to designers and architects. Then just bite the bullet and go for it!! Have fun.

Since you love to cook and the kitchen is such a hardworking room, it would be to your benefit to shop for a kitchen designer [and to be sure it flows with the design of the rest of the house] and do this properly. This will be an investment for your good peace of mind and enjoyment. My kitchen is a '70s beauty [ha ha!], but I don't care because I don't like to cook [that's why there's takeout!] To find a designer, ask friends, family, neighbors, co-workers for referrals. Also put contractor in the search box of this HGTV.com website. Can't wait to see the result!
