It's free and easy.
It took years before I got my dream kitchen. The original kitchen was designed in 1960 and hadn't been updated. I knocked out the wall (well, my totally awesome contractor knocked out the wall ) between my teeney, tiny kitchen and teeney, tiny dining room to create this beautiful space. The original rooms were each @12' x 13'- I told you they were small!
My contractor built the island and made drawers & doors to match the existing cabinets. We reused the original knotty pine cabinets and painted them white. This took many coats of primer & paint. My contractor gave me a mantra for painting cabinets: "Many light coats"!! Someone else could probably have painted the Taj Mahal in the time it took me to paint these cabinets, but the result is worth it and it saved me a bundle to reuse what I had!
