I agree..paint seems to be your best & cheapest option for now (even though it’s a lot of work. With that style of stove hood, maybe a country/cottage style, two-toned cabinet color? Light green cabinets below & creamy white above would blend with your countertop..? (Google images of painted kitchens for ideas An option for the backsplash is maybe putting a new material right over it…like pegboard, sheet-metal or some people have even used vinyl flooring in really cool ways as backsplashes… Depends on your style. As for the shingles, I would open up a spot to see what’s behind those…can it become an open shelf for storage/baskets, decorations, etc?

Paint, paint, and more paint. Just be sure to read up how to do proper prep before painting. A lot of improvements could be made with more muscle than money, at least for now. Would love to see any improvements you make.

Oh you poor thing! So dark and aged. Well at least you could start with paint, paint and more paint! Bright cheerful colors! Are the roof shingles a cover for a light housing or air ducks? If not I would say try tearing them down. should be hollow behind them. Then its just a case if spackle and paint. If they need to stay for the time being. Maybe a faux paint technics to brighten them up and maybe go with a old world street theme with old world colors, iron accents, stucco colored walls and cafe curtains. That is my two cents when I see them.

For not much money, you could do a few things now. Start by removing the little scalloped wood piece over the window, to let in more light. The shingles could be removed, carefully, and the surface underneath could be painted. The same could be done with the wallpaper. Then, being careful to do proper prep work, you could paint the cabinetry and give the whole space a completely different look. It would mean a lot of work and patience, but it's up to you.
