Carebear, This is a great old house and the kitchen is not as horrendous as some we've all seen. Paint is not too expensive and works wonders. If you can't afford to change the cabinets, I suggest painting them either white or maybe warm to dark sage green. Keep the hardware. The farmhouse style sink is great and totally back in style. A good ajax scrubbing should make it look brand new. If there are any chips or deep stains you can reglaze it. The tile walls look like they could be removed without much trouble. Then paint the walls. I suggest any of these: Red, Sage Green (if white cabinets or tan. You could even do a warm butter yellow. A new light fixture is a must. See what is under the linoleum floors. If feasible hardwood or tile. Have fun!

Looks like a great old house. Check out my kitchen remodel...I did a kitchen in an old house as well. It looks like you are going to need to gut the kitchen. I would rip out all the wall tile, which means that you probably wont be able to save much of the original plaster. But you will be able to update the wiring and get receptacles, lighting etc. where you want them. I love the sink as well, but if you cant get it to work in the "big picture", then sell it off to someone who can. If you can save it, maybe design your kitchen around it. Perhaps design an open piece of furniture for it as its base. You can give other pieces in there a furniture look as well like an island, cabinet/pantry, etc. Mix this in with more modern cabinetry...perhaps also some open shelving.

sorry I'm not a big fan of the sink as the other are. check out our kitchen redo. Soapstone counter tops look great in older home. Best advise i can give is have a couple basic designs drawn up by a pro! Then pic materials that you like. Have fun and good luck!

Oh MY GOD! I LOVE that sink! You are so lucky! new seanna paint,off white tile back splash and tan floors and black granit counter tops! Strip down the cabnets and give them a white glaze!To die for!

I love your sink!!! Are you getting rid of all that old stuff? There are plenty of places to find tile and stone. Look in your yellow pages under tile, marble, stone, or whatever you want. Also on the internet-check on Ebay. I look online for ideas, go to a store and see it in person, then price shop. I got oil rubbed bronze faucets on Ebay for less than half the price at other stores. Also, my kitchen hardware from Ebay was about 1/3 the cost to special order at Home Depot. Shop around for granite. One person on here got it from a stone memorial place. I would love to have a real, old house instead of my 1970's. I told my grandaughter one time I would love to have an old house and she said "But, Grandma, you have an old house." Keep checking on here for ideas and figure out what you like about particular spaces-color, design, etc. Good luck!
