Get rid of the awnings and shutters - they really date the house. Go with Decor's idea of the pergola and vines. As for the roof - I'd go with a light colored shingle like khaki or tan. Then trim the house with a pretty brick/rust red. Don't forget to accent the front door and both sides of the french doors with new nickel lighting sconces and nickel house numbers by the front door.

Grandma's home had the same picture window & awning. We replaced it with a small pergola. I would take all of them down, demo the porch, replace all shrubs with flower beds & build a cedar or redwood porch the entire width the two awnings are now covering, adding nice wide steps up to the front door. Put a sitting area in front of the picture window. Cover the entire porch with a matching wood pergola at & extending out with the roof line - mostly decorative. Add a climbing vine for color & shade. Take down the storm door & paint it & shutters to work with the new roof. I would not go with a black or dark roof unless you have money to burn on HVAC. Take your time selecting roofing. If you only want to do it once, consider metal shingles or another such new higher tech roofing. Replace the French door's landing with a nice stone patio, planters filled with colorful flowers & outdoor furniture.
