Is the house still white? In some photos it appears to be a golden cream color, but perhaps that is just my computer. I would suggest staining the door a cherry wood color and then adding shutters in a dark grey to go with the roof. Of course, if you are changing the roof, you could choose a speckled green roof and add shutters in a shade of green to match. Before painting a vintage door, I first would see how a wood-tone stain like cherry would look. I would suggest a white-painted french door for the sunroom OR perhaps putting the exterior door of the sunroom on the back of the house.

The home looks like it is good condition even if the decorative trim is missing. Since you think you know how the home is, look at similar aged homes on the internet and magazines. The good news trim pieces are now made of PVC. Which means maintenance will be easier if you choose to use this material. I have a rental home and we have replaced old rotted trim with PVC. The first & easiest thing I would do is replace the metal porch roof supports. I’d repaint the front door. Homes of this era can really be fun to work on since there are so many resources out there to help you along.

What a gem of a house you have! I would just be dying to get after it too: The door is incredible..love all the detail. I would almost be tempted to strip and sand it back to the original wood and do a light stain on it instead of dark. It could also be painted black and then a different color on the detailing to make it stand out more. I didn't even notice the decorative windows over the standard windows until you mentioned them. A colored trim would make those pop where they would be noticed. I agree on the columns too. Definitely need some that go with the house and the iron ones aren't doing it. You could just encase the ones already there with square wood ones that are more in style with the house. I also agree on painting the brick. The steps look like they are in good shape. I would do concrete stain on them. Plant some beautiful colored flowers in those planters and you'd have a nice welcoming look! Please post pics when you are done!

Has the house been sided w/vinyl? If not it could be painted out to look so lovely and bring out the details that are already there. The porch looks to be a later addition but wood columns would help it look more period. Do you have a local historical society, maybe you can come up with pictures of the home? Maybe you will discover original details that will help you. Good luck.

First, how lovely this old home is and how fortunate to have the old details. If this were my house and money no object, I would suggest that it needs all the architectural features to stand out more. Strip and paint the door black again or a bright yellow. Add shutters to the windows in black and paint the foundation a dark gray like the roof. Sturdier columns on the front porch to play up the structure and a decorative door to the sun room. Finish it off with landscaping with lots of color and texture. Course I can imagine more than the average budget can bear. Hope it turns out to be everything you hope.
