About This Space

We lost our son and daughter in law in Oct. 2012 and found we would be sharing in the raising of our three grand-daughters. We wanted them to feel overwhelming love and have a magical place to just be little girls and let their imagination run free. The castle was born! We created this room with mostly recycled furniture and some wood and about 5 gallons of paint. We think it came out beautiful. Three tone walls, custom bed, and darling chandelier, make this room a magical spot in our home.

What an amazing room.I'am so sorry for your loss; those girls are so lucky to have their grandparents.I understand your pain, and those girls will help.I too am raising a 3 yr. old grand daughter, who's mother passed away 8 mos. ago.I lost my oldest grand daughter 41/2 yrs.ago on her 4th birthday, from a drowning accident. Then, she was the only one. A year an half later, we had three more granddaughters only months and weeks apart. Then when you think your heart is healing, tragedy hits again.And one is left with no mother and a father who can't cope.I quit my job and choose to be here for her.Things are getting better, and they all or happy , healthy, little girls and we are blessed.. Again a beautiful room for your princesses, i'am sure they are treasured. God Bless :

Thank you for all the kind comments, I send thanks to each and everyone of you. On painting the three tone wall question: I just painted about foot and a half down with the first color (blue then started adding the second color (purple to the first in a pie plate a little at a time, and blending it on the wall into the first color until it faded down and became all the second color. Then I painted about a foot and a half of the second color by itself. I added the third color with the same process. I did not roll the blended area, I used about a 5 or 6 inch paint brush. I think it came out beautiful. Thanks for asking, I never get tired of looking at those walls, they really are amazing in person. My love to all, lilartist

Beautiful room!!! I'm so sorry for your loss! I know your pain. I lost my husband in an accident, he was 48. Those little girls are lucky to have wonderful grandparents like you!

My five year old says: "I like your bedroom. It is so pretty. I want to sleep in your bedroom." I'm sorry to hear the reason you have created such a wonderful space. I'm sure it will bring a little comfort to them and it clearly shows how much they are loved.
