For my daughter's fifth birthday, I wanted to create a space that felt like a princess's bedroom but didn't feel commercial or overwrought -- sort of a "dewdrop daisy" instead of "gilded rose" type of princess. My husband and I made her bed ourselves (she picked the color the rest of the decor is from a variety of sources including garage sales, craigslist, Home Goods, Pier 1, and hand-me-downs. Her favorite colors are gold and blue, so I used those for pops of color. She requested a place to sit and have tea with a friend, so I included a little multi-functional sitting space in the corner. There is one big blank wall right now that will have a fairy mural on it in the very near future.
