This is a guest / hall bathroom that we are trying to update. We need help deciding where to go from here. We can't spend any more money and have to use what we have to update. Please look at what I've uploaded and comment on suggestions or things you think are definite no-no's. All help appreciated.

This house is a mix of several 18th and 19th century buildings that I dismantled and moved to my property and combined them into one house. It is still a work in progress along with the yard. Maybe in 15 more years it will be done.

I recently finished this bathroom. I painted it a warm blue for the wall color and a real heavy cream color for the trim. The cream colored tile floor was salvaged from a construction job and I inlaid some blue green Italian handmade tile in 2 places for some contrast. I installed unhoned travertine around the shower insert to make it look moor than what it is. I also got this for almost nothing from a tile distrubutor as leftovers. I installed a hotel shower rod and curtain. The vanity was from a box store and has a blue green granite top...on sale. The mirror was from a junk store. I spent under $1000 on this project.

This is my favorite room to decorate. It's so small and cozy that a few little touches go a long way to define the style and create the mood. It's a simpler look than last year but much more practical. I have no fussy decorations to move when I want to serve a tasty breakfast or have a friend over for tea. Although a rug looks good, it's really not practical in this heavily used room and so it had to go. My theme this year is definitely PRETTY but PRACTICAL.

Originally the basement was 'Mantown' as he called it. He wanted the ping pong table, darts, big screen & got it. But, he rarely uses it & we have company maybe twice a year. I decided a little makeover was in order to use some stuff I had in the garage. The former owner finished out the walls around the support beams without any thought to how the spaces would look or function. I was left with DUMB & AWKWARD nooks & crannies.

This is the smallest bedroom in our recently purchased home, which we turned into the guest room. With little space to work with, we made it very welcoming for our guests.

We have a large extended family and we eat alot. We use this room for our family dinners. This room isn't large enough so we usually spill into the living room as well. It's not stuffy but fun...hence why there is a sofa in the room. Our family is informal so this is my take on a "formal dining" room.

My bedroom was a dark nightmare before. I only wish I had pictures so that you all could see the major transformation that it has seen. I was a dark maroon red color before - on all four walls - with a bright white ceiling. The bed was placed right in front of the door and it was the first thing you hit when you entered the space. I had too much furniture in the space, so I un-cluttered, re-arranged and spruced up my space.
The walls are now a soft blue-green with a light blue ceiling. Crown molding was added for a more elegant look. A wicker chair was added from Peir 1 and a dresser and nightstand was removed. A soft grey diamond patterned silk lines the window with a simple rod at the ceiling for added heigth. Placing eclectic items around the room moves the eyes up to the ceiling and back down. And the darker color of the furniture keeps the eye moving all around the room. This design took place in less than a week!
(The only thing missing in the pictures is the new chandelier that I refurbished and painted white.

This kitchen is in an 18th century log house that I rebuilt on my property. It was done on a tight budget and has many reused items in it. I took box store unfinished cabinets and added moldings, beadboard and cool hardware. The countertops are black granite tiles with stainless steel edging. The backsplash is beadboard. Being the cook that I am, I wanted a chef's kitchen but still fitting with the age of the house. I think it has a good mix of old and new. I spent around $2000.00 to do this project and worked on it for about 5 weeks.

This room has been such a challenge for me because it's small with soaring ceilings. It's streamlined but I like not having to clean around "stuff"! It's a work in progress, rug, new couch coming soon I hope.

This is the guest room in the basement. I stuck with an Asian influence here because I had all of these things in storage but never thought about putting them together. The room is constantly changing.
