About This Space

Our formal dining room has always been a "special occasion" room and is only used a few times a year but we love the idea of taking a small space and making it multi-functional so we took two of our old bookcases and my husband built a "cap" to make it appear as if it was one unit. We added some of our favorite books and a few personal touches and now it is a room that we can enjoy all year long! The color is Benjamin Moore - Wedgewood Gray.

What color stain did you use for the bookcase cap. Those are ikea bookcases right? I have the sameones and was thinking of getting rid of them but I love what you did to make them look nicer.

What a wonderful job on this room. I absolutely love love love those drapes. They are so stunning and so classy. Job well done. Not your typical dining room with the bookcase. How clever.

Finally someone else with bookcases in their dining room! My husband and I are book collectors and we have no other room in which we can fit the two barrister bookcases that contain our most prized books. I've been trying to find other dining rooms with bookcases in them for ideas on how to place them in the room and I might try to push them together and center them with the table like you've done. (Right now they're on opposite walls. I love the curtains! Great job with the room!

My dining room could fall off and I wouldn't know until Thanksgiving day when I go in there to set the table. You've given it the library look without compromising throwing an impromptu dinner party and made good use of an otherwise dead room. Where do the drapes come from or did you make those?

What a glorious space! I've done the same concept with my foyer in that I brought together two bookshelves and made it into one large piece which now serves as my little library. Incorporating bookshelves in an eating area is actually the thing to do now so kudos to you!
