  • All Decked Out, Finally we have our beautiful cedar deck completed. It really adds to our home by offering us extended living space directly accessed through the double french doors both in the kitchen and the dining room. We wanted to create a space that welcomed visitors as well as brought back memories of two of our favorite destinations, Sardinia, Italy and South Beach. We are thrilled with the results and have already had the opportunity to host friends here., Patios & Decks Design

  • My garden, my addiction, my escape!, This is my backyard in Colorado Springs. The ground here is hard as a rock and I often had to use a jack hammer to break it up! And then it only turns to clay once wet. But over a 6 year period I've managed to add a pond and stream; plant trees and lots of flowers and even learned how to set posts so I could build a pergola and gazebo! Thanks to the help of the how-to guides on HGTV! , Gardens Design

  • The home I dreamed...., It has taken me over 15 years to finally say it is done!!! It has been a labor of love and I have executed all the work, from tearing down a wall, refinishing wood, faux painting, making the moorish tiles, designing pieces such as the dining room table and some upholstering (the easy kind), and gardening....Through this journey I have been collecting art and finding furniture of the right proportions, so I can maximise the 1100 sq. ft space, as well as strategically placing mirrors to visually expand the size of the room and show my art collection. Many of the pieces I have acquired at estate sales, garage sales, flea markets and even from dumpsters.....Yes, I also do dumpster diving, if necessary....I have given new life to many of the pieces I own, and it is a source of joy and pride, for it clearly shows that one can create a great space without spending thousands of dollars... My home is an expression of my interest in art , travel and history; everything seems to mingle and get along, and every object has an interesting story that I like sharing with my guests, such is the one about the sofa which I rescued from next a dumpster where it had been for 3 days!! I refinished the beautiful wood carving and had it professionally recovered....The columns are PVC piping which I topped with capitals and gave it a green serpentine marble finish....I designed the balcony incorporating an old wrought iron window I got as a gift, and added the spindlers which I painted in black, ivory and gold....The doors are plain hollow core doors that I painted to make them different, and hide the sound system...I just want the music, and to allow the curious eye wonder around...There are so many fun stories!! Enjoy my dream, and know that you can also do it....I did!!, Living Rooms Design

  • The new back deck, Our old deck was falling apart. Someone stepped through one of the boards, and another on the nails were so rotten it just fell off. The new deck is made of Redwood, and is beautiful! We used 16 foot joists, and 20 foot boards on top, so it is seamless. It has been such a great thing to have, and we are so happy with the results!, Patios & Decks Design

  • Wooded Lot to Backyard Adventure, When we first saw this house online, it was pretty hard to look past how overgrown and wooded the lot was. It seemed like the deck would be so hard to maintain, etc. We went and saw the house anyway and fell in love!!! A year into renovating and we are close to done on a beautiful new backyard. It's like having our own park. It's been turned into very a usable, relaxing space with patio, arbour, fire pit, pathways, a bridge and even turf! , Yards Design

  • New DIY Cedar Deck, Just a few odds and ends left to do but mostly done. My wife and I built this ourselves. The boulder may someday be a gas firepit but is pretty cool as is for a table and focal point. Just put the tools away yesterday for the winter. Will be stained and completed in the Spring.

What do you think? :), Porches Design

  • My Recycled Redwood Project, We hauled this 20 yr old gazebo in the rain. It sat through a winter. Then gradually built a new base "box" of ext. plywood, for $10, got a new recycled glass door. The deck is all recycled redwood, has it's own foundation. We are not done here! Planter boxes are new 4x4 cedar from H Depot. Awning is recycled and keeps the deck 10 deg cooler.
